Lead time on 997 GT3

Does anyone have any idea of allocation/lead time for the new GT3?

Just spoke to my dealer. There is a letter going to all those who have put a letter of intent in. They want a £10k deposit and first come first served. He said they have been told by Porsche that supply will be very very restricted and they only expect 4 cars at their OPC. He also said Porsche is not going to build additional cars as with the 996. They dont yet know when deliveries will start although it will be launched in Geneva.

Just had a chat with my OPC silverstone.

They have no details yet on GT3/RS

They only hve 3 deposits down on a GT3 with lots of letters of intent behind, but
if you have the deposit money, you can go in and jump the intent que.

Same for RS version, where they only have 2 deposits (i'm No1).

They were saying about the fact he PCGB are being a lot more stringent about who the cars
go to i.e. on the forthcoming 997TT, and they will only be allocated 7 cars per year for starters !!!!

All this should help with residuals..

Glenn, I agree it sort of helps with residuals....in the short term. As a strategy it builds up demand for the cars for later in the year and for next.
I really will be genuinely suprised if Porsche doesn't open the tap a little and produce quite a few more of these models going forward than inferred at the present.

It would be intersting as you have a deposit down to ask them to confirm in writing that they will only be bringing 75 rhd 997 RS models to the UK....Just a thought?

That is assuming all dealers only get 7 cars a year too.

I'm not entirely convinced their shareholders would support that.

Is the pedal position considered compromised in modern 911s? I find the 996 very comfortable, although it's all relative to my previous cars

Until God or Mother Nature repeals wheel wells, I think that this problem is here to stay on mid- and rear-engined cars with wide tyres and tolerable steering lock (and which are less than eight feet wide!).

On the other thing, get back to me whenever. (I hope) I'll be around for a while.

GT3's on a limited production

As long as the orders are there they will keep churning them out.

I thought that the letter i opened yesterday said they would not be accepting deposit's untill the 28th and when i spoke to Dealer where i have my order he said if your sending a chq just make sure its cleared by then. Does someone know different?

I haven't received a letter from my OPC yet (and I placed my LOI in summer 2004). I'm not inclined to believe the restricted numbers story, it's a standard sales technique in the industry to ramp up initial demand. It's a shame they are so cynical, but I guess with so many speculators it's the only tactic they feel they can use. Expect the RS to be more restricted but the GT3 will be made to meet demand.

Ten grand deposit? Why on earth do they need that much? Surely that must only be once the car is spec'd.

They're trying to weed out speculators (apparently). Yes, it's a £10k deposit on either GT3, GT3RS or Turbo and that will (perhaps) get you one of this years allocation. They want the cash 'before' speccing the order (although you will be asked to provide a rough idea of spec).

Surely the letter that's just been sent relates to the Turbo.

I have a Turbo on order which I probably won't take, but the this will be for sale in the UK from Saturday 24th June --- 997 GT3 wil be much later ?

A few months later. However, I understand that letters will be sent out for the GT3 shortly.
