buying cars - the role of fate?
Discussion
there is frequent chat on PH about car buying -the role of inspections, test drives, HPI checks, etc etc. I do wonder however how much of it comes down to fate and a simple gut feeling of "i'm gonna have it". after a year of looking for my last car i'd just about given up. I went on google one rainy afternoon (which i never did, having had 28 websites for porsche dealers on favourites already), found a new website i'd not seen before, saw a car that had been put on it that afternoon, was able to see it next day because fate decreed it was half term and i was on holiday, and bought it that day. Ivce no doubt the confluence of events and coincidene heavily influenced mmy decision to buy, even though i was trying hard to be cool and objective
so does anyone else believe in Fate?
I only ask cos ive just seen a speed yellow 993 cab on the Cridfords website which has my initials on the numberplate. Fate lending aa hand again?!?!
you can tell i'm bored at work cant you?

Yep, I agree with you - fate does play a hand. I try not to get emotional about a car purchase - I never get rushed into making a decision ("I've got three more people coming to see it this afternoon" etc etc). The only times I have bought cars without "sleeping on it" I have bought lemons (well, the one time, the jury is still out on my recent, Henry F dream-influenced purchase). If the car is meant to be mine, all things will conspire so that it becomes mine.
If its any consolation, I see cars on t'internet all the time that I believe to be "my car"...and I mull it over for a bit...and the car is sold to someone else, thus saving me from spending money I don't (yet) have on another Porsche. Its a lot harder when you don't already have one in the garage though...

it is a fairly hideous colour i agree, but then i subscribe to the old school of porsche worship where vibrant colours are de rigeur. Saints preserve us all from yet another f
g seal grey/ arctic silver 911. its getting as bad as the Merc lobby. (off topic rant provokes a hailstorm of abuse)
Nought to do with fate mate. One can use that to justify anything.
I could put all my purchases, investments, cars, meeting my wife etc etc down to fate. But the fact is that your thoughts and actions generate a sequence of events that over time lead to what you buy, who you marry and everything else that you make happen in your life.
Ajit.

Hey Softie , fate's just intervened and brought me to the computer (ok.. I've run away from a potential nappy changing situation!)
I spent 6 months looking for "THE ONE" til I spotted it.. also in cridfords , was very impressed with their stock .. and their prices , they seem to go for full opc's only , and I reckon I'll be revisiting them for my next one.
The force is strong in you , young softie , trust your instincts!!

Definitely fate ..I've dodged a teething nappy (the worst kind , for you uninitiated) and I'm gettin those positive waves bout this potential purchase of yours .. It's at least worth a test drive .. Let the pit of your stomach (and an opc guildford check!) do the rest of the work for you!
