I'm looking at a 53 reg Elise 111S with the traditional thinner style of hood. Later model demo cars that I've been in have had a thicker padded hood to cut down on noise. Does anyone have an opinion on how much difference this thicker hood makes? It would be my everyday car and in a 111R with touring pack and thicker hood the other day we were listening to the radio at 80mph with no issues at all - I'd like to be able to do the same.

any thoughts appreciated.

I think the Thicker hood comes as standard as part of the Touring pack. Its officaly an insulated hood

For heat insulation? Ah.. I had assumed it was an NVH device...

I can't recall ever being cold in an Elise with the hood up!

Worth it for a daily driver parked outside, although I replace my insulated hood with an even thicker insulated hard top in the depths of winter. Still need the heater blasting the windscreen for 5 mins without air-con on frosty mornings, though.
