Best video camera?

[Zod]

Right, I've never owned a video camera, but I always said I would get one for the birth of my first child. The happy event is due in April so the time to buy a video camera is almost upon me. On most gadgets, I know all there is to know about every decent model on the market, but video cameras are a closed book to me, so I thought I would check with you knowledgeable people.

I am not price-sensitive (within reason) and what I want is the best possible quality picture, but with decent storage capacity. I know that there are now hard drive models, but don't know whether any of these are at the high quality end of the spectrum. I will be using video editing software.

There have been 3 or 4 lenghty vid cam threads recently, try clicking "next page" 5 or 6 times and you should fine a few good ones.
