Before we install the new EFI system on the CanAm next month replacing the Edelbrock 3500 (more on this in the future), we now have this vehicle to occupy our spare time....

Surely it's only Rock'n'Roll once he has parked it in his swimming pool?

I had a bar in Hong Kong in my shadier days and I had a Corniche for a promotional vehicle. It was a dark blue 76 Corniche.... we put scallops on the front ..like the 50's hotrods (they were stick on not paint on), installed a 900watt sound system and a mirror ball hanging from the rear view mirror, and used to tool around town in it. I was going to install a Chev in it and make it into a show car, but got sidetracked with work and sold it.

I'll try to dig up the photos...

Below are the two very grainey Photoshop impressions I scanned in from the original proposals.. as it turned out I ended up scoring a blue one, it was much like the second impression when finished - it was a bit ratty but a little under GBP10K. Its now in OZ, painted white and doing weddings.

Sorry if all this upsets you Jack... but its one of those things that just had to be done. I still want to do one like the top one - get a Corniche, cut the windshield down and make a lowered Carson top for it, shave the bumpers and the door handles etc… They have a TH400 gearbox in them standard and a Chev will bolt in nicely.... maybe that's next.

Thanks for the photos.
The white car is very interesting !!! I'm not offended by what other people do to THEIR cars, I was not even upset when Ted scolded me for making the changes I did to the CanAm...because "I knew" that I had improved the car.
Have seem many Rolls with the Chevy conversion. Although it may be a better combination, most people don't consider it a Rolls anymore. Having said that, having talked recently to my machine shop person, he cited the tale of a customer who bottomed out in New York with his RR, holed the pan, and didn't realize it until the engine stopped (tightly). Just parts for the engine were over $18,000. They were able to adapt American bearing (except for the rods), pistons, and valves, and did it for about 1/10 of the price for the parts. He was impressed however with the construction, and attention to detail of the Rolls engine. When I was in aircraft school (many moons ago), we had a Merlin cutaway engine. Absolutely beautiful!!. Used to spend hours just looking at the details.I tend to think that the reason I purchased the Rolls was just to share in that engineering heritage.

Jack. I would be really interested to hear your comments on the Edelbrock 3500 and why you are replacing it. I decided to go for this EFI setup on my 427 sbc (American Speed) which is not yet on the road but have heard negative reports about it and suspect that I may have made the wrong choice. Clearly, you don't like it or you wouldn't be installing something else. Any light that you can throw on this subject would be much appreciated. Alan M.

Alan, and other interested enthusiasts.
The problem with the Edelbrock system is complicated, and hard to explain. At first, I thought it was related to my engine and it's build configuration, (cam, setup etc.). Then I discovered by talking with other owners with the 3500 system, that they have the same problem. By now you're probably wondering what that problem is...well here's the story.
Going fast is no problem. Any time you have more pressure on the throttle that's just above idle, no problem. If you're lugging along in high gear and going very slow, no problem. But when you try to creep along in 1st in traffic....BIG problem, some have referred to as the Kangaroo Hop. Spent mega-dollars on the dyno trying to solve this. Dyno guy finally says it's the system...can't make it any better than it is. Some days the hopping is worst than others. Basic solution is to do a lot of coasting in traffic. The problem is arises in the 1500-1800 rpm range.
Now, as to the solution (we hope)..
We're working with Chris Richards of Mass Flo who designed the system, and he has convinced me that his system will solve this problem, and I will be very happy with it. Believing that, we have purchased his system (yes, he did charge me), and plans are to start removing the Edelbrock 3500 next week. Over the next weeks after that, there will be a photo shoot of the new installation for 2 major auto magazines. If I feel that the system performs as Chris has promised, and I approve the system, Chris will allow me to represent Mass Flow for the Ultima Owners.
Will keep everyone updated. We really hope this is the solution

Sorry Chris, no swimming pool, but the Atlantic Ocean is at the end of my street!! I hear the RR has a very complicated brake system that might fail...only a little beach between the road and the water!!!!

Great to hear that you are going with mass flo. Clearly it appears to be the best available.

Jack. Much appreciate your comments on the shortcomings of the Edelbrock 3500 EFI and look forward to your report on the new setup. Thanks again. Alan.

Just noticed that I had Leatherique in my Favourites. Looked into their site once for info on leather dyeing. I'm assumming that you're referring to their leather cleaning and treating products. Are theyt that good??
