I've got a problem with a new server installed nw6.5 and sp5 then migrated my nw5 box across to it. apart from having to nuke nmas.nlm so i can log in all seemed fine.

then it reported a bad block and backed out the sys volume, deactivating the disk.

managed to get the box back up and renamed a directory with the file with a problem. ( it was a gwia file) ran nss /poolverify and reported no probs, nothing in any of the logs, dsrepair also no errors...

seemed fine again untill yesterday am after some users logged in ok, otheres could then login but the drive mappings in the login script didnt run nevermind errorins. if you tried to to a browse to map a drive then browse screen on pc crashed..

i've also got a missing ucmgr.sys file and a bspxcom error on boot related ?

drive mappings came back with a disable login / enable login ...?

cheers

ucmgr.sys and bspxcom are Btrieve / PervasiveSQL related. You should be able to reinstall from your NW65SP5 CD, it's under products/pervasiv.

How did you "migrate" the NW5 box? Using Novell's Migration Wizard?

Bad blocks coming up are always worrying - have you run any diagnostics on the drive? HP, Dell and the like include drive testing on their server diagnostic CDs.

Not sure what you mean on the last one - could you clarify? Are you getting the message / error on the server or client?

Ta, i'll have a mooch

yet latest version of the migration wizard

I've just run the netware nss diags, but not any lower level diags.

It was wierd no error messages or anything I set the client to display the login script results and it just came up empty other than the local drives. and if you used the Map network drive from the novell client when you went to browse it just rought up a blank screen and the egg timer and wouldnt close. It must be some sort of client or licence manager issue ?

The memory was getting a little low so i've chucked in another gig to see if that makes a difference.

for both problems i've been althrough the server logs and nothing nada !!!

The current thought is that its all related to a disk problem randomly giving read errors or corrupting the data flow. the supplier have chucked in an extra disk all i need to do now is migrate it.

(its the boot disk and sys volume!!!)

have you had any success with ghost 8.2 moving the dos partition and the netware partition containing the nss volumes? sector to sector copy? the disks are identical scsi drives.

I know i could be copying corruption across but i figure its worth a try and i really dont want to remigrate and restore !!!!

Cheers
