Noticed a good article in a Scottish paper today

At least the people making the noise here have some influence over policy.

"Neil Gillies, head of roads and community works, told councillors that in 12 months there had been only three accidents at the 29 locations."

"........it had raised £202,620 through 3,377 fixed-penalty fines of £60."

So one camera catches 3,377 speeders at 1 of 29 locations at a time - that leaves 28 locations without a camera to share 3 acidents, none of which are reported as being KSI's so may have in fact been minor 'prangs'.

But it's not about money is it!!??!!

"Caithness councillor David Flear, who confessed to being caught by the camera on the A9 near Tain, ........."

Perhaps that is the reason the Councillors are moaning.

A couple of quotes which say everything really:

"...A Mobile speed camera used on Highland roads was branded a "money-making scheme" which serves only to sour relations between drivers and the police by councillors yesterday.

..."This is a mechanism to raise money and has little to do with traffic safety. The main cause of accidents on the A82 is people taking risks in inappropriate places..."

"...Council vice-convener Michael Foxley questioned the positioning of the camera.

"The spot on the A82 south of the Altsigh Youth Hostel is one of the few safe places to overtake," he said.
