I'm trying to get a GT3 deposit together and she wants photos of the kids!!!!!!
Every time I mention changing my car she thinks it gives her carte blanche to buy stupid things. "You're getting a new car!" is all I hear. Who do these women think they are?

I can't get it through to her mate. I think she's hoping Powergen will spot it and use it in place of Webley stadium in the tv adverts as a higher consumer.

Yes it does seem high, but the car has got to be paid for at some point. It just means that £10k is sitting in the OPC bank account and not yours.
Not sure what they do with the interest that accumulates on the money. If it gets credited towards the purchase of the car then its fair enough, don't see the problem. If they bank the interest, its jolly naughty - would be interesting to see the terms of the deposit taken form.

Really! Thats not right. So the car costs more than list because you forgo the interest on £10k for however long they hold onto the cash. No wonder Porsche are making so much money. It must be industry standard but its a shocker.
Take 100 people who want a 911, waiting list for a year - bank the interset on £1m. Nice.
Wait till you can buy second hand - save the depreciation and bank the interest - unless the money's not an issue.

If you don't like the practise, I can only urge you to not buy a car. That's the only way they will learn.
There are ways to weed out speculators that don't involve getting free interest on large chunks of your customers money without giving guaranteed build dates & etc! Of course speculators wouldn't be such a problem if they didn't build more cars than the market can handle.
Does the dealer hold the money, or Porsche themselves? I know people who lost deposits on the Lotus M250 when their dealer went under and the car was cancelled. The dealer hadn't been forwarding the deposits to Lotus, more like propping their business up with them...
I would imagine Porsche will allow interest on the money. They did with the Carrera GT. If they don`t ask them nicely. They won`t do it for a month or 2 but over 6 months and I think you would be right to expect interest on £10k.
After all how would they feel about you just grabing a Porsche jacket off the rack on your way out of the showroom when collecting the car. They`d call the law.
