Headlight Relay in the front wing!

Having blown the fuses and all the door locks on the Cerb. I am sytematically working through the electrics, with help (rescue) from Andy at APM and am down to the final hurdle.

Having had the front headlight conversion, I have a relay in the front of the passenger wing where you have to take of the little panel infront of the tyre, well placed in the hole to trake the brunt of water coming through the "dog bite" vent!!

This is knackered, where do I get a new one? The car came with the front already converted so I don't know who did it.

Oh! I don't know who asked but the little green flashing light is wired in to the door and boot lock circuit as well as the alarm and tidying these up has got it working properly.

If it's a standard 4 pin 40a relay, the you should be able to pop into Halfords or Maplins and get one.

No it's a funny slim box about 12cm by 8 cm with a board in it and a couple of circuit breakers. Recieves a message from the light box and the dim dip switch and does something at the front. The connectors have perished on the male/female plug and it is taking a while to work out what to do. Basically the headlights come on after the car has hit a couple of bumps in the road!!

A piece of advice arising out of my own relay failures in exposed areas. Get one suitable for marine applications which will be a totally sealed unit. Also protect connections with waxoil or ptfe grease!

You've not bought one the dreaded Ebay cigarette lighters have you?

Sounds like a similar problem to that affecting the Dim/Dip beam box to me. The connections probably need to be resoldered.

Steve T - You Mentioned the dreaded Ebay Cigarette Lighters !!
I thought it was only me, I bought one from eBay, Burnt out my fuse, caused the lights, wipers and 4 way flashers to come on all the time.
Have a friend who bought one for a Chimaera, and it burnt out all the wiring loom in the drivers door - Dont buy one !!!

I have rewired the loom and changed the dim/dip box and it still does it hence the focus on the front switching unit, which I now understand is a standard TVR part although there were a variety of them!!

I know of two other owners who've suffered the same way. Those things are evil!

Don't think it is standard. There is no relay or control box in mine in the front wing. I would expect the relays to be added when doing a head light conversion to either fix the voltage loss in the original loom, or to make both lights come on at the same time when on main beam, or both. I have a headlight conversion with no relays and as a result the lights are crap! I will be adding the relays to fix the problem. My guess would be that various suppliers of the light conversions have come up with their own solution to the problems, so there are probably several configurations out there.

Had some good help from Ewellem Coachworks who have put me on to TVR Power. Apparently there were a few, I've just got to look at the part number and they will order me one in.
