Can anyone tell me if the 944 or the 968 are child friendly?? We have to part company with our Lotus Elise as a child is on the way and want a car that is well built but still sporty offering a bit a room in the back, its not the main car as it were so boot space should be ok, my thoughts are on child seats? Do they fit or even make them for the 944 or 968?
yes yes yes! both perfect. yuo can get child seas 2 fit, albeit a tight squeeze but you can do it. once they are old enough to hold their heads up they will love their father for providing such brilliant transport. and they will think you are the coolest dad around. both cars are very sturdily built, great handling, good brakes. I have a new french crap car as well as a 16 year old 944 and I would say the Clio would come out the winner in a crash test. You have to remember the 944 is designed in the 70s!
But in answer to your question - they are fine, my 7 year has spent 600 miles on one day in the back.....

Should be fine, though finding seats that fit may be a challenge.
I have two Porsche seats that fit my 993 and also fitted the 944 I had previously. I got them from a small ad in the back of 911&PW.
However, you should note that you cannot (as far as I know) get a rear facing (Stage 1) seat in the back of a 944, so until the baby is 9 months or so (and can sit up etc.) s/he will need to go in the front and you/SWMBO will be in the back.

My older two (5 and 3) the 944. Usually the older one in the back on a booster and the younger in the front in a proper child seat although he's old enough to go on a booster now (only problem is that he can reach the gear lever an thinks that he has equal piloting duties - in fact he thinks it is his and that i'm just the driver). Child seat also fits in the back, but the seat belat in the back aren't inertia reels so it needs one of those gadgits to tension the belt. Also had the yougest (8 months) in a rear facing seat in the front (no airbags to worry about). He doesn't really get the whole prosche thing yet. The oldest has already asked that I keep it fro when she's old enough to drive it!

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and have been carting them around in the 968 (sport) for the last 12 months. You can't get a rear-facing Category 0 seat (up to 9 months old) in the back of a 968 (or 944 or any pork except the Cayenne) but the Recaro Start seat fits well - they go from age 9 months-ish until the little one doesn't need the seat any more. Many child car seats are unsuitable because of buckle crunch due the long buckle on the 968 rear seats.
If the little one is small (under 2 years old) you should really have the additional Recaro Impact cushion with the child seat. The problem then is that the seat belt won't reach and you have to get it extended - it cost me about 100 quid.
The boot on the 968 happily takes a weekly shop and buggy too. A top all-round family car that is very reliable and handles beautifully. The only question is, how can you live without one. [Note: is the boot on the 993 was bigger, I'd have one of them instead. When the kids are a little older maybe...]
