has anyone moved the window switches on early Griff?

nice though it appears when my girlfriend reaches across from the passenger seat and starts fumbling, all hopes dashed when I realise she's just trying to lower her window. damn. what a stupid place for the switch. I am having a new anodised ally plate made up to replace the cracked perspex one which houses the heater/window switches and would like to arrange all four momentary switches neatly across the middle in a vertical plane. This means cutting out the fibreglass tunnel bit that's behind the perspex plate - has anyone done this before and is there any reason why it shouldn't be done? Or was there a sane reason why our friends at Bristol Ave decided to hide the heater switches neatly behind the handbrake and the window switches right behind the gearlever???

I take great delight in pointing out to passengers seeking the window switch that the all controls are aimed at the driver, hence for the driver to decide and not for passengers with idle hands. ie. If I want to drive with the windows down to better hear the engine I will
