I need to get a driveshaft solution to a problem im currently having a fight with.

Basically the original type of driveshaft was a two piece affair supported at its outboard end with a bearing inside the diff case.
As i dont happen to have the driveshaft i need, ive found a simplish solution that would appear to suffice.
Basically ive got a driveshaft (solid) with a male spline at either end and a driveshaft flange with a sealing face and a same size male spline on the end of it.
My solution is to cut the spline from the flange and get the other end of the d.shaft friction welded to the flange. Job done......ish.

Does anyone know of a suitable company for such a job? I dont want to attempt to weld it myself as its not really a good idea methinks!

Any help gratefully appreciated.

You could give GKN a try? They made my half shafts for a reasonable price.

Just a thought mate, but have you considered the fabricated shaft would not be correctly balanced? This would cause a hell of a lot of vibration, possibly diff failure. Just a thought mate.
Good luck, Paul

Yeah i had given that some consideration, it would have to be balanced after fabrication for sure.

Don't forget stress relieved crack tested etc etc. GKN are about £250 a shaft = no contest

Worth contacting Dave Mac in Coventry as well they make all sorts of drive and propshafts up often a lot cheaper than the competition

Hi

GKN do not do one offs any more, they refer it to http://asp.drivelink.com/index_conten I only know this as my mate works there they do a lot of stuff for aston/lotus and race teams, one offs are not a problem. The must common problem is that the drive shafts take out the weak link in the drive train, then there customers end up blowing, diffs, gearboxes & engines instead.
