Hi everyone! I'm 24 years old and i've just sold a property, so i'm thinking it may be time to treat myself. I'm not going to be completed stupid and blow all the money on a car, but i'm looking to spen 8-9k on an elise.
Just wandered what your opinions would be on owning an elise in london? The car would be a toy and not a daily drive
cheers

with a good alarm, tracker and a hardtop, i dont see why not. They are hard to sell on if they are stolen because everyone in the community knows each other. there is no point in stealing them for spares because they are a metro. they are not vandalised a lot because they are seen as an un pretentious car.
Saying that, I and many others would not own one without a garage.
My point is that there is very little point in a nice car in
london.

Yep,

Go for it, should be able to get a fairly good S1 for that money but if I were you before I went any further I'd check Insurance

i keep one as a toy in london. garaged though. unless you're going to use it to get out on weekends etc - you wont get a chance enjoy the performance... btw my best insurance quote came from elephant if you do go down that route (i'm 28). Edit : i wouldn't swap it for the world - so yep go ahead.

Go for it - we had an S1 parked on the street for a couple of years (one of many locally) with no real problems. Once found a kid-sized footprint on the front clam which gave me a heart attack but no damage thankfully. And the lack of bumpers can be a problem with inconsiderate 'bump' parkers who only know where their car ends by trying to merge it with yours...

To be fair, 8-9k won't be getting you a concours spec car anyway so take the plunge and enjoy it. And if you have to buff out a few minor scuffs then that's the relatively small price you pay for owning a car you love.

Depends where in London.

I'm in Putney and its fine. There's a few more elises where I am, had no problems. Bit of an arse to park though.

Saying that, I'd look at insurance first.

Definately. Used ine as a daily commuter from Kingston for 3 years before I started working from home (and before the congestion charge!)

Without a doubt buy one!

I live in London and have a Elise. Insurance is only £750 and I am 25 with 3 yrs no claims.

I park it on the road with no problems and you only have to drive outside the M25 to find some cracking roads.

Any of you 'street parkers' had someone reverse into it while parking? I've parked behind mine a few times now and you really can't see it out of the back of my Audi, I'd hate to think what it's like in a Range Rover...
