Help! My 4.5 developed a shudder at 5000 revs and started burning off oil in November. One highly expensive engine re-build later I got the car back and began slowly coaxing it through the run-in. Was given the green light to go up to 5000+ only to discover that the shudder is still there. Gave the beast back to the garage for the 1000 mile tune up and they now can't get it to go above 5000 rpm in any gear. Apparently the engine and ECU are both spot on. They're tearing their hair out. I'm tearing my hair out.

Any ideas/revelations/inspiration?

One assumes it is one of the dealers or a well known indie?
I can only suggest you try APM - he is (one of) the countrys leading AJP expert (s).

I seem to remember someone having problems with their intake hoses collapsing and restricting air flow at high revs, effectively choking the engine... Might be worth checking if yours have never been changed?

Many Thanks! Yes, a well known indie - reliable and sensible. I'm intrigued by the idea of these air hoses collapsing. I will pass that on and see if the lads have already spoken to Jools. Cheers!
