Early 996 turbos for £35k-£38k??

(According to this weeks Autocar magazine, pg 84 "Buying one second hand" )

This is a mistake/typo surely? Just checked Autotrader and the cheapest 996 turbo is £45k and is a left hooker.

If this isn't a mistake, can somebody tell me where these cars are??

Defo typo..I noticed that, I guess £55k-£58K might have been the real figure

I disagree. You can get them RHD for well under 50 grand now. Se these 2 ads for a start:

These are year 2000 cars (or MY 2000) so I bet you can get a W reg one for 40 grand if the seller needs to move the car.

It's almost inconceivable performance for the money and, like an old oak tree, or an E39 M5, I'm unsure as to how so many err instead towards condemnation at the helm of a Daewoo Labia.

OK, but nowhere near the £35k as suggested by Autocar...

Autocar has a habit of doing this "you can get one for 3p" type thing.
Sure, a very early example in white with green leather with the thick end of 60k miles in p1ss poor condition & shot tyres brakes & clutch you might be able to get for £35k....but who would want one like that?
If they are going to say this then they should back it up with examples for sale at that price in the classifieds.

Yes - there are plenty of cars available under £50k. There is an 18k miler year 2000 car at an OPC for £49,995. Expect to see more of this.

£35-£38k is definitely too low but £55-£58k is too high for early cars - £45-£48k?

I thought the same. I have just bought a 996C4S for £40k after trawling the classifieds for months and I thought I had done well to get a low milage C4S for that price. Certainly did'nt see any 996 turbos remotely close to that. I reckon the autocar reporter is looking for one himself and thought he could cause a bit of a price slide!
