From Porsche to Elise ?
Discussion
Hi guys
I've currently got an '04 911 Cab but am thinking I may have to get rid of it in the not too distant future as I will be doing too many miles and instead am thinking of buying an everyday hack for work and something around £10K for fun on the wekeends and in the summer and paying off some mortgage with the spare cash.
My question is will I be able to get a decent and reliable Elise for £10K - my maintenance and repair skills are zero and wouldn't want to be landed with tons of bills and it would only cover about 3K milea a year.
Anyone have any comparisons to make between the 911 and the Elise ?
All thoughts appreciated......

911 and Elise are chalk and cheese. I've had 3 Elises, an S1, early S2 Racetech and an S2 111S. £10K is the least you'd want to spend and you could get a good one but it would need thoroughly checking out.
I've now got a Cayman S and my Dad has had an older 911 so I guess I can make some comment on comparisons but it's hard to know where to start! The 911 feels grown up, much more solid and better built. A sorted S1 Elise really feels alive, more so than the Porsche and has no brake servo, no ABS, no power steering. It really is basic stuff, but it seriously puts a grin on your face!
All I can suggest is go and drive a few. Good luck!
Edited to add: I see you live Surrey/Sussex. Look up Fibreglass Services. Full A service is c£120 and it's a franchised Lotus stamp in the book. Buy a good one and doing 3K p.a. your servicing and maintenance costs will be peanuts.
