Hi folks,

Just pulled the turbo of my Saab 9000 Carlsson -

Not very well as you can see (don't want to think about where the metal bits went...), there's about an inch of play in the shaft too :-(.

Been searching around for a place to get it reconditioned, Turbo Technics are just up the road from me. Has anyone used them before? Any ideas as to how much it is likely to cost for a refurb?

Cheers!

If Turbo Technics are local, it would make sense to use them.

Damage like that, I'd guess at between £300-450 depending on how nice they are.

What happened ?? were you running with no air filter ?

No idea what happened, have never run it without an air filter! Will prob take it along to TT, see what they say.

Cheers.

The bad news is that the bearings are shot, almost certainly an oil supply problem, and it has almost certainly worn away the housing. That is not good.

You not only need to rebuild the turbo, but flush out the intercooler with jizer and a garden hose from both sides to get all the aluminium swarf out of it.

Moving air through it will do nothing.

TT supplied my turbo's. I dealt with Giles who's left now. Service is a bit hot and cold depending on who your'e talking too. I Guess they get fed up with endless people calling about turbo projects that are just pipe dreams.

TT overhauled my T3, can't rate them highly enough. Not cheap at ~£450 (bearing, shaft and wastegate actuator and bracket) but fantastic service. I chose not to go to one of the many 'Garden Shed Turbo Specialists' as they just didn't inspire any confidence.

Regards,

Chris.
