Big thank you for everyone thats suffered the big fuse blow

I've carried a spare big fuse around with me for about two years after reading that they are an essential spare.

Yesterday, I was driving along and noticed the battery light was glowing dim, then realised that the rev counter wasn't working. Knew straight away that the big fuse was gone, so sechduled a pit stop at my mates house, whipped off the cover and changed the fuse. Took all of about ten minutes to change (five minutes worth of my mate trying to get the bolt back in after inadvertantly taking it all the way out instead of just slacking it off) and we were back on the road.

I was thinking that without this forum and the wealth of information you read about, digest, but don't really think about - I would have had a nightmare of a time, with the car eventually spluttering to a stop and the AA being called.

So thank you all, especially the people past and present who've had the big fuse problem and have posted the tell tale signs of it blowing and also, more importantly, where it is and how to change it.

On the same lines..... whilst panicking ahead I, too, have read several threads on 'The Big Fuse' problem. Including www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?action=good&t=112506&h=0&f=&p=
but I can't seem to find mine !!

Are they located differently on a 4.5 ??
