Does any one know if an ECU can be damaged after a jump start?
Have jump started Griff after flat battery, charged battery
Now the car won't turn at all, the doors unlock, the light goes out for alarm,
the flashing immob light goes on permanant when immob key is inserted & taken out - normal so far, then no familar noise of fuel pump & when you turn the key, no clicks of the starter motor or anything, no lights on dash etc, the stereo & elec windows still work, could a spark have damaged the ECU if so, where & what does it look like? Easy to replace? any suggestions will be grateful

very doubtful. the ecu has nothing to do with turning the engine over.
possibly blown some fuses, or the battery is still so flat (or shagged) it won't pull motors etc.
BTW - always ensure the circuit making contact last on first off, is the earth lead when jumping. this ensures any sparking is on the earth.
get yourself a battery condition unit (£8 from Halfrauds) and an accumate, or similar staged battery CONDITIONER NOT CHARFGER, plug in for three days or so and see if the battery recovers. if not buy a new one.
if it does, it'll probably still run like a bag of spanners as the ecu will hit its default settings untill it relearns your engine.

Thanks for your info, have checked most 'obvious fuses' any suggestions would be most grateful, I had bought a 'battery pack' for jumpiweng - it still didn't work, Any suggestions on how to get the bat

Andy,
Thanks for the information so far, wouldn't mind any advice on how to actually take the battery out, as I charged still in the car as I couldn't take it out 'bit of squeeze',
have checked most 'obvious' fuses, suggestions would be good ! also had bought a battery pack to jump with - still no good, AA man did the same & supposedly checked fuses - what else do you think it could be? I do believe that battery is probably 'shagged' but it normally alows me to at least jump start?

It could be the immobiliser playing silly games. Try disconnecting the battery earth lead for a couple of minutes or so and then reconnect. The immobiliser doesn't like the battery being slowly charged from dead flat for some peculiar reason. If you disconnect it and apply full power instantly it seems to play ball again. Make sure you've got your plipper ready
As for getting to the battery, it is possible to disconnect the lead(s) whilst in situ, but for the sake of undoing a couple of bolts underneath, it makes it a lot easier to drag the battery box out when disconnecting the leads.

Thanks, where are the bolts to get the battery out?
under the car, unfortunately

More to the point, it avoids the risk of shorting either battery if you accidentally let either positive lead touch an earth on the 'other' car.
