Anyone got any tips on removing the Y piece from the exhaust?

Can't get the damn thing to come out of the other pipe..

The pipe that the y piece slots into underneath .. exit bound pipe..

The clips on top came off easy

Try a good soaking of WD or heating up the pipes - it should just slot out when freed up a little...

You'll probably have to undo the exhaust front and back and pull it back to get clearance, and also be able to twist the pipe to free it from the Y-piece. Even if you can break the seal you'll be lucky to get the Y piece forward enough to pull it clear of the exhaust.

You will have found that the joint consists of an outer pipe with a slit, over in inner pipe. There would be a U bolt over the join to clamp the outer onto the inner. Undo the U clamp, slide it off the end of the outer and clamp it onto the inner so that it is close to the outer. Then use a big screwdriver or pry bar in the gap between the U clamp and the outer to force the two apart. You should find that with a slight wriggle to ease the friction you can then gradually move the two apart. Oh, obviously you separate the Y piece from the headers first.

I've always found the wiggle easier with the rear roll bar off or droppped and use the tail pipes

I tied my old exhaust to the back of the wifes car.

Brave man, with these manifolds

I remove rear anti roll bar, centre and rear mounts and the engine mounted bracket. Then give the pipes a shake. If it still a bit tight, lightly tap around the joint of the pipe unions with a hammer and spray with WD or similar.

I have done it again today to get to the diff and fit a decatted y piece while i am there.

Give it a coat of exhaust assembly paste on assembly, it helps you in the future.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity, have you measured the backpressure under load? It's easily done via a lambda sensor boss.
