Retro-fitting stainless steel kick plates in a 996

I was going to get a set of these as mine's only got plastic ones. Any idea how difficult they are to fit/how difficult it is to get the old ones off?

I only ask because it took me about an hour to change the toilet seat on Sunday.

hi Mate,

really easy. Old plastic ones just prise off (stuck down with double sided tape) and new ones just stick on. Dead easy.

I fitted stainless steel items to my 986 recently - dead easy. I also got them off ebay - chap selling original factory ones at fraction of the cost. Boxster versions are £210 at OPC, I got them for £70!! Genuine too.

So, easy job, just sticks on. Make sure you have clean sills though. Couple of useful links:

above link shows the seller for porker items that I purchased from. You can see he had original 996 kick plates for just £40, and they did not sell, so they may still be available..that's almost 1/5th of the price.

Nice one tiger, thanks for the info. I can't believe they're stuck on with double-sided tape Design 911 have originals for £105 I think, so I'll probably go with those.

I feel your pain

The skill required to change these toilet seats is way underestimated, you need rubber fingers to have these plastic nuts align underneath the bowl.....

I have lost my temper the other day doing it too.....

I'd rather work an hour on the porker than one hour in the toilet bowl if I had a choice....

It wasn't so much fitting the new one that was the problem, it was getting the old one off. I suspect that it hasn't been changed for "some years", and the brass screws were rusted to ph*ck. Lots and lots of hacking around with a pair of pliers eventually removed it.

You're right, too, an hour of having my head in the bog was not my idea of a good Sunday afternoon.

Did you install the toilet seat with the "996" or "Carrera" logo?
