I have a small job to carry out on my Chimaera that will involve disconnecting the battery until I have finished (I am a slow worker). What preparations should I make.
eg 1. cd player code- don't have this(bought car second hand) .
2. Immoboliser/alarm - will it just activate and work normally ?
3.Anything else to watch out for?
Thanks.

Nothing really.. in theory the whole car should be fine after a disconnect, afterall flat batteries are pretty common on here .

One thing though, you might want to put something in the door gap (rolled up towel or something) for the inevetable moment when you automatically shut the door, before having reconnected the battery (Either that or take the roof off before you start).

Cheers,
Matt.

Damn fine point Matt!

Have plippers at ready - usually need to press after reconnect - some alarms go off, although mine doesn't.

Er, what else, I always undo the earth rather than live, as lots of earthy contact points in restricted area to hit with 'live' spanner!

You can save the radio code by connecting a 9v pp3 battery (smoke alarm type) across the battery leads while you do whatever. It gives just enough juice to keep the memory but not enough to cause damage if you accidenty short something! Just make sure you turn off the interior light!

I have just discovered something which may be of use, (more likely that everyone knew but me ), - if the cd player has a removable front then it is not coded , one thing less to worry about.

What a great idea! Just when you think you know every little trick in the book someone comes up with a blinder!
