I am now the owner of a 3200 GTA... Am very happy with the car. I do have some questions though, which I hope some of you may be able to help.

1. When the car is in P or N , the revs idle, but as soon as I engage either D or R the revs stay dead on 1.. is this normal ?

2. Have to press brake pedal a fair bit before I get some real bite and when in reverse the rear brakes seems to squeak.. do I need to get them checked or again is this normal ?

3. Can someone claify how big the petrol tank is as I am told its about £50-60 to fill up , but read somewhere it has a 90ltr tank ?

Thanks

It's a 65l tank or thereabouts - not 90.
Still - you'll get used to refilling it so it won't be a mystery for long!

Re revs - don't know - one of the auto owners will be along in a moment I'm sure.

As for the brakes, probably just worth checking the depth remaining on the pads yourself by having a look at them.

hmm, pretty sure it's an 88 litre tank for the 3200 and 4200.

HAving done a quick google you seem to be right. :hangsheadinshame:

Forgot how painful it was to fill up! Been a while since I paid over 50 quid for a tankful!

Being a bit dense today, what do you mean the revs idle? Do you mean the idle is about 900rpm or do you mean it hunts at idle but stops when 'd' is selected.Tickover in 'd' should be approximately 1000rpm.

The brakes being a bit vague may be because the pads are not genuine type, i have come across this before - replacing with originals my help.

Hope this helps

1 about the idle mine is the same it hunts (sometimes) in park but it is bang on in D
2 My brakes do the same. I think it's due to the handbrake. Not sure but i suspect it is a disc and drum set up. The drum is for the handbrake and from past experience they ar a nightmare. May be wrong have not had chance to look but will ask the garage to check it at service in a couple of weeks.
3 My record is just shy of £70 at tesco don't know what this relates to in litres.

It all sounds pretty normal to me, so don't worry. I have found the brakes very vulnerable to rusting through lack of use. Mine squeak and vibrate if the car hasn't been used for a while. They are spot-on once the have re-bedded and especially when nice and hot. On the fuel tank issue the handbook says 90Lts capacity, but I read somewhere that the reserve is 20Lts once the warning light is on. My "best" fill up is £67 on Tescos 99 Octane. You need to know the locking the pump trick so you can go and have a coffee whilst fuelling this car!

Really !!!!!!!! You're supposed to use petrol you know.

The hand brakes are drum and think the cables are made of elastic. Doesn,t matter how often you adjust them they just stretch and stretch. The hand brake on mine gets adjusted every service and a week later its back to being useless.

mine hunted too at idle in around a 500 rev range. also the breaks squeaked, as did those on my 355. turns out to be something to do with the pads used, after market pads can stop it. my 3200 was also a gta in sebring blue. maybe its the same one!

Brakes only work well when very hot, it is a sports car after all. Upgradeing to EBC red ceramic pads helps ALOT and they are considerably cheaper than originals. You can get them direct from EBC, but strangely they are cheaper from needforspeed.com

Hope this helps.

Thanks 3200gt had a quick look at the needforspeed site you do seem to save alot compared to OEM pads. Can I just confrim I need the pads only and I will still have the Maserati Brake Callipers showing through the wheel?

Go for red ceramic, blues won't solve you slow bite problem. Additionally red ceramics do very very little wear to the disc and at 200.00 per disc you wont want to replace them too often.

Take the round cap that says "Maserati Unleaded Fuel Only" on it and wedge it between the pump's trigger and trigger guard. Now you can fill up like they do in every other country... with both hands in your pockets!

I don't think they let you pay before your pump clicks "off" anywhere though..
