Windows wont close!

I know I am asking lot of question but new owner and all that....

Silverstone TVR lot replaced all the seals. Windows go up fine although a little slow butwhen I lock the car the drivers window will not close all the way. This worries me! It stays open about 1cm, maybe a tad less. Anything I can do about this before i take it back to the chaps at silverstone and gt them to have a look at it?

Mine occasionally does this. I just re-jog its memory by closing it from the inside fully. It seems to work OK when you get out next.

When you arm the alarm, does it not go up the last cm? If the window was fully down, when you arm the alarm, it should close all the way on its own.

I have closed the window fully, then got out and it does not go up th whole way. Then I alarm the car and it closes a bit more but not fully. Batery was pretty weak when I got the car as it has been standing for a while and even after a long run it was not happy so I had it on charge for about 18 hours to see if that helped the batt. I pulled out the key when it was on charge so I guess that will hve reset stuff?

I don't think I have wound the window fully down yet so I'll give that a go tomorrow night.

So far, I have only done about 40 miles in the car since I got it last Thursday so I am looking forward to a run to Harpenden tomorrow night. Thinking of which, anyone fancy coming for a quick jaunt up to Harpenden tomorrow night?!

Thank for the advice, I'll lt you know if it works. Any other ideas for me to try at the same time?

THese problems are sometimes caused by damp/corrosion caused when cars have been left idle for some time. Is it garaged overnight?

How long is long? (cue knob gags]
If it was my Caerb I'd take it out for a good 100 mile run on a dry day, then put it in the garage and shut door to keep the heat in. Hopefully that would evaporate any moisture on any contacts. Not a technical answer at all, but sometimes a simple fix is all it needs.

You can get silicone spray from Halfwits (or a similar motor factors) that you can spray on the window seals which means the glass slides over it more easily.... It may be the window motor doesn't have the guts to slide the glass past the seal but a little lubricant may well help (doesn't it always ! - sorry ! )

what age is your car? if it's post 97 it coud be faulty limit switch if 97 or earlier i'm working on a fix for this very problem.

BTW - how much to the seals cost to replace?

I had the same problems with mine which got worse when I had the 96-era seals replaced with the later ones (about £150 for the seals plus a couple of hours work IIRC Dean )

Certainly spraying them with silicone helped a great deal, but it would appear that most of the window motors in Cerbs in particular are a tad weak. Its not helped by some of them not having a "stop" warning thingie, IE, when you open the door it should only drop so far, but in mine it had a habit of going too far - then when it came to close it moved the regulation distancem which obviously wasnt enough. I've explained that really badly, but I hope you get the gist.

Ultimately I resorted to ensuring the window was all the way up when I got out, then taking the time to admire the car whilst very very gently lifting the window as it closed - you don't want to pull hard as it'll strip the threads on the servo, but a little gentle assistance will help it on its way.

Try opening and closing the door a few times and see if that helps.

Seals are pretty cheap. Silverstone did both doors, the windscreen checked the car out pre purchase, tuned her as power was down and the whole lot cost £260 so I am guessing no more than 150 inclusive of everything for the seals on borh doors.

Okay, now I'm convinced that my car hates me.

I just popped out to the car to put the driver's window fully up, as its just started refusing to go to the top when you set the alarm, this is annoying as it was all okay last week. but now the passenger's window is stopping a full 2" short of the top and refuses to rise any further, I have lowered the window, pulled the leads from the control box, but top no avail, my car is now covered with a tarpaulin as it's lashing it down.

What do I try next guys?

Inner door off and check the micro switches if none of the "sitting inside and pushing the up button/closing the door a few times" fails to work.

My window goes up slowly when I shut the door and doesn't reach the top either.
So what I do is make sure it is almost all the way up before I get out, then as I shut the door I shut it whilst holding the window and help it up by giving it a gentle tug (ooh err).
This way it will be almost at the top before relying on the remote closing.

Right, I want out to check the car last night and noticed that the interior light was still on, so does this rather indicate that the proximity switch on the passenger door is playing up? i.e. the window won't rise as the control box 'thinks' the door is still open?

I'm asking on here as it's very wet out and have a tonne of work to do this morning before I can go out and 'play'.

Hey Adam

I purchased a 97 Cerbera about 3 weeks ago. I had similar problems a few days after getting the car home. I followed the advice from the guys on here and it all worked fine.
I was a little nervouse getting the spanners out. But decided that I would need to be able to sort out the little problems before resorting to the experts. In short, I removed the bolts holding the door panel only to find the connectors were all corroded. 15min later after making them all shiny and new the window worked fine. Some of the previous threads from the experts explain exactly what you need to do.
