HDMI is certainly a winner.

I'm guessing the ethernet is for the new "on-demand" movies service?

Component's a bigger winner for me as HDMI whilst being the best down the line is a pain in the 'arris to install as its not field terminateable.

As JC mentioned, the ethernet connection will probably be for their broadband stuff down the line so on demand movies, replays maybe even IPTV etc etc.

I've just installed HDMI over ethernet as part of the new cinema-roomextension. It's a winner

Smart! (I see Gefen are selling the same thing over here)

Does it work well?

Any issues?

Seems to. It was the installer that spec'd it all. It was used as we wanted to distribute the upscaled DVD output to several locations in the house, so it made sense to leverage the new structured cabling, and it's more future proof then paying for expensive HDMI cabling, as it all converges towards all content over IP.

Loads of those point to point and point to multipoint type systems at ISE this year.

THe challenge is going to be a HD switching matrix, which I think we found!, I just need to read up on it a little and then look at it properly after the Smart Home Show next week.

Good to hear it has got an HDMI output, initial indications was that it would only have RGB!

Hi Vex, I see you're in the trade. By a matrix, do you mean a way of routing multiple HD sources across different locations? How is the switching controlled, at the source or target?

I have been on the sign-up list for Sky HD for some time now, but am not likely to subscribe. I would have up until a few weeks ago, but have changed my mind. Looking at the range of HD programming available at launch it seems a bit thin on the ground. What I'd like to know is how quickly will additional HD programming come online. I am concerned that the rollout of HD programming across other channels is going to be slow. I don't watch the movie channels, the only sports I am interested in are motorsports and there's none of that in HD, 24 is the only thing available in HD that I would watch on Sky One. Discovery HD is probably the only one I'd pay for to have specifically in HD. Given this, I shall not be replacing my perfectly adequate Panasonic Tau widescreen tele with an HD capable unit until I get a PS3...!

Sky HD looks bloody good if you are into football, rugby, cricket and movies. Aside from that it appears to be an expensive luxury.

I shall spend my £'s on a new car instead

Have to agree, I think most of us already pay well over the odds for the total mundane rubbish that masquerades as 'quality TV' - I have come to realise that there's much, much better things to spend my money on, rather than lining media moguls' pockets in return for ever-decreasing quality and choice..........

Does Sky+ record in a proprietary format?

Just wondering if you could stream the recorded programs off to watch on PC, that was all...
