Quick question, I was browsing a website and I was surprised to see a photo on the site looked very familiar. Then I realised why - I'd taken it . Problem is I don't have little copyright/website symbols like most of you guys do so what can I do?

If I ask should they remove the picture from their site, or can I claim compensation as technically it is being used to advertise their business?

Yes you can advise them that as you took the picture then you own the copyright so they either pay up or remove. I dont believe it is necessary to have the copyright symbol.

Not addicted to PistonHeads my arse

Anyway.. what site is it we are talking of?
And stop trying to make money from it! It isn't that easy . But if you can prove it is your image, suppose there is a claim to be made.

Dave.

Its yours and your copyright, symbol or not, and shouldnt be used without permission. I assume you have an original to prove it?

if they;'ve made money from it or the website then some of that is rightfully yours, if they havnt then a polite please take it down or by agreement use it with a with thanks from or something.

I thought I could make a few quid off it . The site is actually a PHer's, advertising his numberplate business. and yes, I can prove its my photo as I have the original, other pictures of the car in the same place, and in the photo he has my mums standing behind the car

His customer sent it to him apparently...so some bugger has nicked my photo from here and is sending it to companies claiming its his!

Now to hunt him down...

edit: how much do I ask for if he wants to keep it on his site?

Kind of. Basically its a site showing all the plates they've sold on nice cars. So it could be classed as advertising.

A check of the weblogs for any of my sites shows my pictures cropping up all over the interwebbernet.

It's nice on the odd occasion to get a credit but most times that doesn't happen. Hey ho, I don't care, unless someone starts using it to make cash I'll let it pass.
