Scamera Partnerships Radio Ads - rant
Discussion
The Wilts and Swindon partnership have sponsored the local GWR radio stations traffic reports for some time now. Each traffic report tells you to "drive safely, drive within the speed limit". That is annoying enough, but now I am hearing an radio ad telling you that (not word for word, but from memory) "every time you drive over the limit you will automatically be fined at least £60 and have 3 points on your license. Do it four times and you will lose your license and possibly your job too. So you will have to stay at home looking at the car you can no longer drive.".
This radio ad is frankly very threatening in tone and I find it extremely offensive. If the scamera partnership feel that they are improving their public image by advertising in this way then they are way off the mark. In fact it baffles me as to why they feel that they need to advertise at all - but then I suppose it is not their money they are spending but ours, so what do they care? I have stopped listening to GWR as they are clearly complete tarts and will take advertising money from anyone who is prepared to pay.

Why not complain to the radio station, say it's offensive, threatening, misleading and untrue etc.
Boosted.
Trouble is, (and very sadly) it is not misleading or untrue. Four strikes and you are out - and quite possibly lose your job as a result. I believe however that the ad is intended to scare people into compliance. What does anyone else think about complaining to GWR?
Do they actually say "every time you drive over the limit you will automatically be fined at least £60 and have 3 points on your license" ??
Because if they do that's obviously untrue, if it were true I would have several million points by now. Most drivers drive over the limit on every journey they make.
I stopped tuning into commercial radio stations ages ago, when the scp ads first started appearing.

Quoting the words, "likely to cause alarm, harassement or distress"....thatll piss on their chips.
Why not complain to advertising standards

Enough people do it then they'll give the radio station some trouble.

Agreed, GWR Bristol must be in cahoots with SCP, I'm sick to death with the adverts, stopped listening to GWR whilst driving through their region. Much rather listen to BBC Bristol at least the bloody SCP hasn't infiltrated there.
"Speed Kills"
No chance
"It's the unexpected stopping that kills"
SCP Vans are the ones creating unexpected stops in traffic

Seesure, too true the whole situation is a joke at the motorists expense. The commercial stations aren't going to say no to the money and why should they, it's their life blood, so they encourage the scp's with endless money to squander to advertise their bullshit all they want.
I imagine they pay top whack for their advertisng too, they're not going to haggle the price down because they have no idea of what spending their own money on advertising is! It's all free money to them.
The commercial broadcasters must be rubbing their hands together for sure. And so the farce continues.

The advert that annoys me is the one that goes on about exceeding the limit and killing your girlfriend... Hmmm
I listen to my MP3 collection now; no annoying double glazing ads or idiotic scare tatics.
You're not the only one

Well didn't you Brits give up all your privacy rights recently by allowing your govt to track every vehicle electronically or on video or by satellite? ![]()
Tis a sad day in the U.K.
Eh eh eh ! what do you mean allowing...
Exactly lol.
This is a democracy, hence we don't get a say! If they can get away with telling landlords that they no longer will have a choice on whether to let their clientele smoke or not on their own premises, they can get away with anything!
Shower of shite doesn't begin to sum up this dictatorship.

Whoever said we lived in a democracy - we live in a parliamentary democracy which is a totally different animal. Once you've cast your vote every few years you hand over control of your lives to the secretariat. And they wonder why so few people bother to vote.
If they want to get people interest back in politics they should;
a Make voting compulsory
b Ban TV and Press advertising and make the candidates go back on the 'hustings' and hold public meetings.
c Have an extra option on Ballet papers - None of the above.
Then if people don't like the parties manifestoes they can vote 'None of the Above' and send them all away to re-think exactly what they can foist on the electrate.
Don't even get me started on the 'Anti-smoking legislation!!!!!!!!
