I picked up a large nail through a tread block of my (non-TVR) tire. The tire store insisted on patching with a combo patch and plug. They still took the tire off the rim so it wasn't a cheap jam-it-in plug job.

I remember when pugs were disapproved of because they caused hot spots in the metal cords and could potentially cause tread separation. Now I'm told it is the "only" approve way per some industry group.

Any thoughts on this?

They have been used for about 15 years..

It looks like a mushroom... it's a very good system
but they will not do it near a side wall or on very low profile
tyres for good reason..

Teaches me, I've gone to the same low-tech but honest neighborhood guy for 15 years but now he's gone and I've turned to the discount super-store for service... "Oh may I sell you three new tires while you are here?" Thanks Rev.
