Are my tyres crap...? Goodyear Eagle F1's
Discussion
Hello all,
When I collected my Cerb from TMS in the summer it came with a new set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on the standard 17" wheels. 5.5k miles later the tyres still look like new and I seem to be sliding all over the place now that conditions are a little greasier.
Are these tyres not very good - it would seem that they are too hard as they still look like new? Does anyone else have any experience with these tyres and would upgrading to a set so3's greatly improve the traction?
Thanks
Tony

I have two sets of alloys one for summer one for winter both 17 inch, for summer is use the SO2's and SO3's over the winter. The S02's seem to have a harder side wall than the SO3's but overall on the road the SO3's IMO are the better overall tyre especially as i use the car daily rain or snow and this is the UK after all.
I've got Eagle F1s on my Chimaera and have found them to be excellent in the dry and wet. I initially had the tyre pressures too high and the car was all over the place, but now I've lowered them the car is much more stable and planted.
I know that the TVR Centre in Barnet fit Eagle F1s to their Cerberas, so they should be ok...

Curious, I run 16" all round and find the opposite i.e. S03 is stiffer laterally than S02, doesn't move around as much and breaks away more abruptly.
at croft two years ago I got the opportunity to try three cerbies, one with F1s, one on SO2PP and one on toyos. The F1 shod car was a hoot .. slip sliding all over the place, no real grip to speak of and you could hold slides all day long. the tyres looked as good at the end of the day as they had at the start. bargain!!
Thanks for those points people,
I was just interested as I reckon they are far too hard and offer very little grip in the wet. I must say they were faultless in hot, drier conditions.
I remember reading threads where people with Cerbs reckoned getting 3000 miles out of a set of tyres was good. Since the F1's still look like new and have oodles of tread left after nearly 6k miles does this mean I have been driving like a granny? I think they have another
I saw one Griff BB, but not the other. I have been out of action for a couple of weeks in hospital. I saw the Griff (and drove) the the Griff sold by another PH'er called Davidd.
I have decided to take the cats off the Cerb - the pipes arrive on 3rd Jan - can't wait.
