The latest entry list for this year's series has been posted here.

Nice to see some of the familiar names and cars from last season ( Henry and the Top Cat boys) and a few new ones too (a Darrian, Richard Chamberlain's 935 and the V8s). Warren Gilbert's Sagaris sounds like an exciting prospect too.

One question...

Simon, where are you?

Without going into the bitter detail, after being given assurances about a ProSport being eligibility for Britcar in 2006, we then were strung along for several weeks, only to be then told that we cannot run it in all the Britcar rounds.

At this late stage, we have had to do some re-planning and are currently looking at running in Brit GT in the GTC class.

Hope to see some of you out there…

Simon

Simon, thats a shame - but no surprise that you were unable to get a straight answer!

Hope to see you at a Britcar meeting soon & the very best of luck with the coming season.

Echo that, shame you won't be doing all the races, Simon. Especially after the high of last year's finale. Looking at the entry list for '06, it does appear quite top heavy with German stuff. The PS3000 would make a nice alternative really...

Best of luck in BGT. Will pop along and see you at some stage.

How's everyone else's plans shaping up for the new season. There were a lot of PHers involved in EERC championships last season so come on, let us know what you're all at!

Blimey, my first post on PH! Our car is coming along but so is the 25th. We have had to completely rebuild it for 2006 as coming from 30 minute races to 2 hours will cause us a lot of problems. Heat is the major factor and although the car is quite quick it can be fragile! Oh, and the other issue is fuel consumption! It drinks like a dipsomaniac!
Still, really looking forward to the season as it will be a heck of a challenge and thats why we go racing. See you at Silverstone.

Richard.

Hi Richard, welcome to PH! I've seen your 935 racing previously in Porsche series and Intermarque races; quite an awesome bit of kit and an interesting addition to Britcar. Hope it goes well for you.

Both of the cars I know are now in Ps1

76 1 PS1 Paul Fenton / Mike Gardiner BMW M3

and a new one

64 2 PS1 Gary Coulson Honda Civic Type R

All of them have raced tasmins at some point... although Gary does hold the record for writing off Tasmins...

We were talking about me doing a couple of rounds, but im not keen on FWD and the budgets are looking a bit tight running the tuscan as well. Although were racing at Spa the same weekend as the night race so maybe.....

Thanks for your kind words Gary. we will certainly need all the luck we can get this year. I am really fired up about it and my co driver, John Allen, is even more enthused!
I decided to move to Britcar for 2006 after doing the 24 hours with Mazda. The Porsche races are good but have not been too challenging over the past few years. I reckon Britcar will change all that! I have looked at the entry list and there is some serious kit out there. With DTM, Aussie V8's and big Porsches the competition will be very hot. Lets hope everyone keeps it on the island and has fun.
Richard.

No dis-respect to you Richard, but it's somewhat a poke in the eye for Randy and I that you are welcomed in with your 935 at the same time we get kicked out!

It's even more laughable when you consider the soec of the Peugot that's being entered with it's 650+Bhp NM XB engine in a car that's reported to be under 500Kg's...

My first marshalling event was to see this at Thruxton, we were having bets on how long it would be to start lapping (3 laps if I remember correct). It lapped the entire field there. I was the one waving (badly) the mirrored chequerd flag

Oh well, lifes not a level playing field!! I'm sorry Scuffam is not out as we go racing to race and the ProSport would be a serious car. However, whats wrong with BritSport? Surely, thats where a ProSport should live.

It will be annoying if featherweight cars with hugely powerful engines are allowed to walk away with the races. However, I doubt it will be allowed. We have rebuilt our car and it is heavier and less powerful because we know to finish first, first you have to finish. If we find we are way off the pace then we will have some hard work to do as obviously we want to be competitive. Conversley, if we are very competitive then I am sure we will be made to take longer pit stops. Remember, our car is going to be very thirsty and for a two hour race we will have to stop at least twice for fuel. Thats what I call a disadvantage!
We don't have a limitless budget - in fact a budget at all would be a novel idea! We do everything at home and if we need to find more speed we will have to burn the midnight oil. Hugely powerful engines are not the only key to speed - for the last two years we have been "outpowered" by over 300 bhp - but it is the complete package that is important. A chassis that allowes the driver to exploit its strengths and hide its weaknesses is key. The problem comes if your competition has this AND mega horsepower!

Our first test is Snetterton on the 7th. Keep your fingers crossed that it all holds together. Wintwer development has an ugly reputation for biting in the Spring!!

Cheers,

Richard.

P.S. How do you highlight comments made by other contributors? I have repeated the first lines of Scuffams post but they are not highlighted. As my son says "I'm a techno loser"!!!

The whole point of buying the Prosport was to be competitive in Britcar. The car was cleared to run before it was purchased and racing mid-field in Britsports is not an alternative. Seems ridiculous that the perception is that because the Prosport is styled a bit like a prototype it should run in Britsports. There were two road going prosports which is 2 more than many of the current Britcar field which makes it more of a road car than many of the entries. Basically it seems OK to allow a tube frame race car with a champ car engine but not a tube frame race car with a Ford Granada engine just because of the styling, that's ludicrous. Also seems very ironic that we have been welcomed to BritGT with open arms when I thought the whole point of Britcar was to allow a more diverse field of cars. On top of this we have been very receptive to equalising the performance of the car if that is necessary and slowing it down even if that isn't the case.

I feel bad venting my spleen like this because I'm a staunch supporter of what the Britcar series has acheived. The series is a breath of fresh air and it's a great shame we have not been made welcome within it's ranks.

Anyway, I love the 935 of Richards, havn't seen that run since it was out with Group-C. Would be nice to see that winning a few races this year.

Randy, I understand your point about space framed cars. The trouble is that the car does look like a Britsport contender whilst the Aussie and Star V8 cars look like Britcar competitors. Not very fair, I agree. Will you come out and race with the Britcars at any venue? I watched the last but one race at Brands last year which Mike and Fluxie won with their ProSport and left thinking we would have a serious problem. Interstingly, that was the very reason we decided to have a go.

Tell me, how does a 650 brake, 500 kg car run in Britcar without 930 kg ballast????????? It would simply be impossible to fit that amount of lead safely

Richard.

Agreed on the ballast front, just not conceivable. It's also not conceivable to rolling road a 600+bhp car and get an accurate figure - especially on a mobile rolling road.

Mike Christopher's car (the one he shares with Fluxie) is by no means a standard prosport and gave an unrealistic picture of the performance of a normal one. He has owned that car since new and developed it extensively including a 380BHP+ engine. Simon's car is very different.

Just to add to Randy's reply to this..

I have always run in Britcar (back from Pembury 2002), I like the format etc.

The Elise was starting to get pushed further and further down the grid last year, and I was being pushed into entering it in Production S1. I did not want to do this for several reasons, but mostly cause I wanted to run in Britcar.

About August last year I decided that I would need to get into another car, and after a long look at the possibles, and then talking to James about what would and would not be acceptable in Britcar, I went with a ProSport - at the time, with James's full backing, (This I reasoned would put me in the right sort of balpark pace with the front of the field that was out last year).

To then get messed around for many weeks, with conversations about change in wieghts, wheels/tyres/wings/etc. just meant that we have done nothing to get ready for this year as we had no clear target to aim for.

to then get the answer that we can't run in all the rounds, etc etc. was just the finnal straw for me, what is the point in running in a serise if you can't do allt he rounds?

As for Britsports, if I wanted to run a car in Britsports, I would not have brough the ProSport, a Norma/Juno/Radical/Jade would have been on the shopping list (or even one of Randy's Nissan's).

I am going to miss the padock of Britcar and all the friends we have made there, I can only hope that once all this has settled down again, I can take another look at it.
