i.e., stuff you've got from suppliers as part of your job. Say as a motoring journalist.

Only there's one chap, who I suspect might be a staffer for a "well known motoring magazine", doing just that.

Yes, it's OK, they are his. When I was a journalist I had tons of freebie clutter, mostly t-shirts, bags and jackets. I still find the idea of buying a bag a bit odd. The Computer Exchange is full of old review software.

I found a set of my indicators being sold by a journalist on ebay just last week. Worked for a Porsche magazine although didn't say which one.
I was a combination of flattered and gobsmacked.
