The original plan was to take the camera and grab a few dramatic landscapes and perhaps some deer. However the great Scottish climate meant I got mist, mist and some ice. So here is a few unusual shots that i grabbed whilst on the move. There was no way of convincing my 3 climbing partners to hang around as it was a tad chilly.

Flying fencepost!!

1600ft up, what a view!

Icy fencepost!

the last one would be a very nice pic if there was just a tad less mist so that the fence dissapeared slightly further away.

note to self: make more time for photography!

It would have made for a nice Sunday afternoon hillclimb had their been a tad (load) less mist

it just looks like the light and weather werent conducive to producing something great... im sure steve carter has been out a few times and come back with nothing. Shame. looks like it had potential.

Very nice! You've captured the essence of hill walking in the UK! Another effective composition: two dark stones dripping rain water with a partially decomposed banana skin wedged between them and some suspect tissue paper. Title could be "Summit of Ben Nevis".

p.s. whereabouts were you?

The weather really was rubbish, even more annoying as it was great when we left the house 20 mins earlier.
The last one I do quite like but it is frustrating as had there been just a little sunshine on it all the ice would have been highlighted. It was too cold to hang about though, we reckoned around -5 celcius with a fair breeze as well.
Even more annoying was the fact that as we made our way down I decide to just put the camera away for lack of light and visibility only to miss the oppurtunity of getting a shot of a ptarmigan. By the time I got the camera out it flew about 10m of the path, and that was enough to make it invisible.

I want to see the next shot you took as your ear touched against the electified fence. A picture of your knee I imagine!

dont get me wrong, i like the picture. its just that i believe (with my very limited knowledge) that it would have been a lot nicer in slightly better conditions, thats all!

In the spirit of posting more pics, I think misty days can result in some nice shots.

Photobuckit (or whatever) resizing them down doesn't help much.. in any case, I reckon a bit of whizzy post processing can rescue an otherwise dull shot. This one looked like nothing when it came out of the camera:

Bit of shadows and contrast enhancement and I'm well pleased with it

Great views when the weather is clear. The joke wears pretty thin, but often good to have a postcard of the view in your pocket to show to walking companions when you reach the top in the pissing rain.

Exactly what I was thinking. There's no colour to speak of and it's dull, so go for tone and contrast instead.

Like this from NZ. The colour original is only fit for the bin.

A bit like our walk in El Chorro gorge in Spain, eh Andrew?

Ok, wasn't too sure about the B+W but I could see the thinking. A bit limited in processing here, only got iphoto so this is about my limit.

would like to be able to provide more contrast arond the ground area but it messes up the sunlight effect when I do it in iphoto as there is no way to split elements in the frame.
