Whilst performing a somewhat 'agressive' stop tonight I had brief dip in oil pressure on my V8 now the oil level wasn't at the top mark but it was only about half a litre shy. Is this sort of thing normal? and should I be fitting my accusump?

When I do pull the lump for rebuild I'll be adding a baffle or two I think

Talk to Jesfirth, I think he had a similar experience which led to his engine going pop.

I've been thinking of fitting an accusump for a while now, but haven't got round to it.

If your oil level is anywhere near the middle mark on the dipstick, you will normally lose pressure on a left hand turn.

I always run the oil at full, or even a ittle little bit over full, just to be safe. I don't trust that dipstix to be at an adequate level. P.S. I check and don't get frothy oil

Ohhh, interesting thread.

So, tell me has anyone actiually fitted on of these to a Cerb'?

I had a cursary glance at what is available and I assume you'd need at least a 2pt unit with a 30psi Electric pressure control valve. Am I right?

I would have thought a sandwich plate on the oil filter mounting would be the easiest fix without stripping down the engine?

Would really be interested in any 'real world' experiances with these.

Given that there are lots of hoses to and from the oil cooler, I would think you could also plumb in an Accusump via these too.

I like the pre-lube function of these things too.

I wish you hadn't mentioned that. I checked after the last, erm, spirited run, and the top of the oil on dipstick looked decidedly cappucinoed. I've been trying not to think about it ever since.

..so how much are headgaskets per bank?

As Simon said i lost an engine last year due to low oil levels and braking hard on downhill slopes. Now i always check it before I drive anywhere and overfill it slightly especially for sprints track days etc.

NEVER run an engine anywhere below Max. It should be on the Max mark and no where else.

Too low, increased power potentially, but also increased heat, aeration, possible lack of supply from surging etc

Too high, reduced power from crank whip thus also causing increased heat and aeration. Less chance of surge supply issues though.

My accusump was fitted to my wedge and is the big 2 pint unit with a solenoid valve to open with ignition, I used to use it to 'prime' the engine up to about 1Bar before starting and it was teed into the remote oil filter line.

I'm a bit shocked to see that the Cerb doesn't have thermostatic control of the oil cooler to be honest especially in England, puts a lot of unessecery load on the oil pump, perhaps leading to shearing the driveshaft keys? Another little job to do.....

The only disadvantage to running the accusump I found was that if you did several engine start / stop in quick succession then this exhausts the pressure in the unit and it then takes a while to obtain oil pressure.
Otherwise it worked very well

The wetsump pan is already baffled. There are issues with some of them on the side of pickup/display/connection.
I personally never had my reading drop ever (and I've done some nut-yanking stops and turns)

You already know everything else about oil levels and such

Best thing I'd suggest is get a SPA dual digital backlit gauge (which consequently will fit perfectly replacing the oil press/water-temp gauge) and it comes with its own sensors so you can do the dirty yourself - nice and digital
If you're really feeling enthusiastic, get a speedometer replacement too, go for one of those aftermarket jobbies, again, you can find a decent replacement to go in the same hole.... go the full 9 yards and even get a tach replacement and drop your own sensor pickup in (there is a connection on ECU for this)
