not sure there is any such thing as a cheap v8 - mine was in good nick when it came my way but it has still eaten £5k of parts over the winter and i'm only 1/2 way through it. The old adage of buy the best you can to start with seems to be true for tvrs the same as every thing else

Never seen the car myself, agree the adage buy the best you can afford is not a bad thing. More importantly you need to look at the worse case, the what if's though. Peeps can get het up about minor things and lose sight of the whole car IMHE.
Examples:-
You can get an individual seat repaired or retrimmed for £200,
Chassis repairs around £1K for body up and repair,
Engine well basic rebuild costs are gonna be around £2K without any upgrades,
New clutch around £1K fitted.
Is the suspension tired
, almost certainly, suspension kits start at around £500 up to £1K for self fit add at least £200 for setting up and alignment if its not included.
Mileage low or high, judge the car not the speedo,
Paint a blow over for £500 to £2K for a complete job,
Servicing main dealer and or recognised specialist are a must to me, another angle is to speak to the servicing garage and ask about the car, they will tell you if its a no quibble owner or a skin flint

Does it have extra's that make it stand out
Does it have odd tyres, they are to me a major indicator of scrimping on costs, personally I will walk from any car that the owner hasn't bothered to put good boots on, it raises the question where else has he tried to save money..
My way of looking at any car it is to prioritise based on how much to put this and put that right. What do I intend ot do with it, how long I am expecting to keep it. A cosmetically clean car could litterally set you back many K's without a blink of an eye.
All of these should be part of your thought process when buying a TVR (or any car tbh).

pretty much what I was trying to say but shorter I just added value to some of the potential shortfalls, at least that way if the work has been done recently then its less likely to occur again so soon after purcahse
