Am I the only person that likes the Cayenne?

Meanwhile, back on thread, I like 'em too and will get one as soon as:
a. I can buy a decent one for less than £25K (so not too long to wait then!)
b. Petrol comes down to 50p a litre (ahhhhhh...... bugger!)
Whenever my ladyfriend moans about the relative lack of bootspace/comfort/practicality/permission to drive of my 911, I point at the nearest Cayenne*. "We could get one of those," I gleefully reply. She thinks I'm joking to prove a point. I'm not. One day, when the kids and dogs and house in the country hove into view, so will a Cayenne. I love the fact that their detractors claim they're ugly, pointless and vulgar. Many of the same people say the same things about the car I drive today.
*I live in NW London. They're as common as Mondeos around here.

I love my S, does exactly what it says on the tin & keeps me highly entertained. I keep the air suspension slightly below normal height & change the settings (comfort/normal/sport) for the shocks according to road conditions, which helps enormously. It really is a fantastic bit of kit which only seems to be slagged by people that a) havent actually experienced driving or owning one or b) by what some numpty 'thinks' they're like down the pub.

I have a Cayenne S (Black/Black) and really rate it. As the above poster said, get the air suspension and it rides beautifully. I took mine down to France last year and it cruised at 140mph all day with the air con at 19c.
I'd always take my 997s for a spirited drive but for a family with baby etc - it's a great car (looks best in black in my opinion).

Indeed a generalisation - that's why I said 'average'. Truth is that most Cayenne buyers are new to the Porsche brand, and not Porsche enthusiasts, and therefore not here. Present company excepted of course. The thing about average is that some people aren't it.

Ive driven loads of cayennes and still dont understand its purpose.It is not a great family car(too small carrying capacity and too juicy,and no 7 seat option),not cheap enough,ugly, poor reputation,not sporty enough,etc...i was desperate to buy one but x5 is better to drive,and land rover disco does the family bit way better!
I hate them because they're huge, and I hate all huge cars - not from a lentilist perspective but because you can only drive fast on most British roads with a small car with a big engine!!!
Now if you were to give me a Rav4 with the Cayenne Turbo engine, I'd have one immediately

i fit 2 young kids in car seats (both sub 5 y old) plus 2 full size prams, carry bags etc plus a medium sized dog in the back and they all fit in with ease, so im not sure where the 'not great family car' comment comes from.
juicy - maybe if you count 20-24 urban 26+ motorways as juicy, but thats what i'd expect from a large SUV weighing over 2 ton with over 350 bhp. Its a small trade-off for the pleasure it gives.
poor reputation? says who its a brand new class/model so you'll see 'small' recalls (i.e. misting lights, glass latch replacement etc) but these are all minor glitches sorted 'without' fuss within the 1st year, whilst under warranty.
(hardly the same as the BMW recalls see Vanos & compared to any of the Land Rovers
) not sporty enough? Really? 350+ bhp on the S 0-60 in a smidge over 7 onto 150mph (the S which i have) for a 'family' car. Id like to see the disco 3 match that?
you see the thing is, you can list off different cars that you may consider 'better' for certain purposes. (i.e. the disco for off-roading/7 seats, an rs4 for more speed/room, a lexus rx for more gadgets) but when it comes to viewing the 'whole' package the Cayenne fits the mould 'better' than any of the others IMO.
(if youre comparing your experiences in the small V6 model, then granted, you may have a point re: performance, but anything from the S upwards, sorry, but i just dont agree).
