Had a chopper and whacked my chopper on the gearshift once when braking hard , got a raleigh burner after that chrome one with oval frame and mag wheels

Awww come on people - the Chopper had a GEAR STICK for Smilie's sake. No other bike in existence has ever had a gear stick - it has to be the best because of this. Grifters were shite.

I had a blue Grifter, only trouble was trying to do wheelies, and knocking it in to 3rd gear by accident as it had twist grip Sturmey Archer gears.

Built like a tank though.

Also had a second hand Striker.

And before that a bronze Budgie

Chopper definitely!

Had a Mark 1 when they first came out, wider handle bars and longer seat than the later versions. Also had a proper 'car' style gear knob (no gags please)rather than the T shift.

Mate had a grifter, another had a chopper (i had a bmx soooo much cooler IMO) - The chopper is far better - you can't put a flag on the back of a Grifter

I had a grifter. Light metallic blue. First bike I ever had with gears. Great bike but too heavy for wheelies and the grips gave blisters. A real Tonka Toy of a bike though.

grifter was tops. unfortunatly mine had a gear problem for a while, and the pedals would just give on me, resulting in me whacking my nackers on the cross-bar.

Chopper - most frightening thing I ever rode. :scream:
Mate of mine had one and I tried it out down a local hill. The add-on speedo went off the clock at 35, by which time the front end was lighter than a Labour MP. I could p155 all over every other bike in the area on my trusty old 10-speed Falcon Black Diamond.... until some tw@ thieved it from Ann Stockton's back garden while I had my hand down her pants in the kitchen. I know who had the bike away, just could never prove it.
Before that... an old Triumph 3-speed converted to 5 by my dad with an oxy-torch and a lump hammer... a Raleigh Pavemaster in gold and blue... ... and a pedal car made from sheet steel and rubber. If I drove it off the kerb I had to get my dad to lift it back up for me! Hmmm... would probably be a collector's item now... (the car, not my dad!)

If I remember correctly, there was the Budgie and a chopper but also a middle size bike of similar shape. Anyone remember it?

But you can put a CB radio and massive twig on one .. or at least i did .. one of those little Falcon jobs, motorbike battery and twig on the back. Sprayed it Triumph Vermillion (same colour the 3000M is going to be!). I rescued it from my grandad's scrap yard. Always wanted a Commando when I was younger .. kinda like an army-issue version of the grifter but not as heavy .. the twist grip sturmey was a real selling point in those days ... PS was it the Striker (miniature single speed grifter-a-like) that had the back-pedal raer brake?
