Following on from the comments that there aren't enough photo threads, have a look at these & feel free to tell it to me straight...
Simpo had a quick look at them yesterday & was "honest"
...
The first one - straight from the camera apart from a couple of passes of the PSP X "clarify" tool, and a resize.
The second one, "clarify" filter used, and channel mixer to output as B&W, then a tweak of the contrast...
Chris.

What is this clarify filter you speak of?
I think they're both great shots - ones I'd be proud of. They both, however, look almost painted! An amazing effect.
I think the second one shows a good eye for pattern - I find tree/forest/wood shots (not THOSE kind of wood shots) can very easily become really flat but I think yours works.
Incidentally, a tip I was told was to look at a shot you intend to take with one eye closed. It effectively strips out the depth you get with both eyes and helps you make a decision on whether the shot would work. I've tried it and reckon, IMHO, it works! and you don't look as silly as squaring off your thumbs and index fingers.

Brilliant pictures.
Forgive my naivety but are they photoshopped?
I'm new to this photography malarky!
Many thanks....
I suppose I can anwser "No" to that with a clear conscience!!!
(I actually use paint shop pro X instead on photoshop, as it's much cheaper!)
There is a bit of tweakery with the contrast & there is a great effect called "Clarify" that is what brings the sky up in the first image.
In terms of time spent on tweaking them, there is probably less than 2 mins per image...
I hope that you are enjoying this new malarky, as I have only recently got back into it (bought my camera in May last year IIRC!)

1) Looks like the aliens are coming ![]()
2) To be absolutly perfect it needs "woman in red coat", but it's a great shot.
Just did the "one eye" thing...cool!
Martin.
Ermm, sorry but I don't understand the one eye comment. I've tried looking with both eyes ans with one eye (left and right seperately). Still looks like a grat pic to me!

If you look at a 2-D (ie flat) image with both eyes, you can clearly see that it's flat and your brain tells you it's flat.
However if you cover up one eye, your brain/imagination is free to add the missing dimension and it's easy to convince yourself that it's a 3-D image (especially with that subject). Apart from the fact it's b/w, it's easy to feel you're in a forest with depth.

When out, selecting a shot, close one eye to give you an idea of what a "flat" photo will look like.
