Floyd - over-rated ? PH top groups ?

Ok - in a shameless effort to get the word newbie removed from under my name, and because I'm interested and found only 2 previous posts remotely connected I would like to know Ph'ers music tastes.
Today (end of term thing I suppose
) We started to get talking about what we listen to and I piped up first "Floyd" - no not the fish bloke, and everyone went "errggh, c*rp, sh*t, completely over-rated", in a group of 8 blokes I was the only one who rated them at all, now I know the members of the band may or may not be popular, but I always thought their music was pretty good, I like other stuff sure, but this came as a complete surprise - I'm slightly older than most of them (youngest is 26 I'm 32, average 29).
So ok rate Floyd if you want, i won't stop listening (when top of the pops was on tonight I was waiting to pick the missus up from her chrissie doo, I put "sorrow" on and muted the tv - listened to one decent track and missed 4 trashy pieces starting with the "Cheeky Girls", marvelous!") So what the Ph'ers top groups? I'll start...

Verve
Oasis (can't stand members BTW)
Smashing Pumpkins
(more that I will add as the Stella goes down...)

I've got Heaven or Las Vegas by the Cocteau Twins in the CD at the moment; haven't listened to them for ages. I'm also partial to a little 'Kitchens of Distinction' now and then too (more then than now it has to be said).
I've also got a thing for Depeche Mode right from their earliest stuff, thro Violator and onto their more recent output. underrated imo.
Lloyd Cole and The Commotions, The Smiths and last but not least The Dead Kennedys!
I don't suppose anyone likes any of that stuff but there we are.
I'd like to fit most of the current crop of bands/top 40 with concrete slippers and take them for a swim.....appalling.

Edited to add (whilst Floyd do their thing)... MP3 is only fit for tapes in the company van, and I'm appalled that anyone with some of Ivor Tiefenbrun's kit in the house would even mention MP3 and Linn in the same sentence.
Personally: Armstrong 625, Quad 405, B&W DM3, Teac, Rega 3, Marantz 273 (from the days when Philips still knew how to do electronics properly)

I was a great fan of Pink Floyd - Yes - Genesis - Genesis in the seventies. Then I made a mistake to go to a live show of of PF two days in a row. First day in the arena and the second day just above their gigantic sound table where those taperecorders did their job perfectly: I visited two identical performances. I learned a valuable lesson the second day: Showbizz is all about image and makebelief.
I still got two PF LP's though: Relics and Wish you were here.
And when I'am in a nostalgic mood I go to my Thorens TD160 Mk II turntable; take my headphone; turn up the volume; close my eyes and travel back in time

Thorens TD160!! Excellent! I had a Mk. 1, with Thorens own arm; the suspension was a bugger to set up properly though, almost as bad as a Sondek. My mate Jez still has a 150 somewhere....
