Ipod connection for pre 2002 E46

Hi folks,
Can anyone advise me if there is any means of connecting an ipod to a 2001 E46. My dealer tells my my car is too old for the BMW kit. I'd like something a that allows me to charge and hopefully basic control through a head unit or sterring wheel.

Dension.com do a cable, menus and tracks are browsable from the standard controls, track info scrolls across the screen. Does replace the cd changer though.
