Cruising range of an S3?

Haven't quite got my head around the way the fuel gague merrily goes up and down like a fiddlers elbow depending on road gradient and would like to avoid running out of petrol at some silly hour on the motorway..

Whats you best guess as to the range on the motorway at about 70(ish)?

While I think, is there a technique to getting fuel into the car - the vapour lock thingy on most pumps I've used causes me no end of problems..

No answer to the vapour lock. I bank on about 200 miles on a tank. It's probably a bit more but until I get my gauge fixed I'm guessing

The best way to get fuel into an S quickly is to turn thr handle and therefor nozzle of the fuel pump through 180 degrees fron where it would normally be. Although uncomfortable it always made it a lot faster for me.

At a steady motorway speed (70 - 80 Mph) I can just about manage 300 miles maximum. Typically 250 miles minimum to a tank. That is on my S2 with the 2.9 Scorpio unit.

On the S1 I find that angling the filler so the petrol swirls round and down helps. As there is no trip, I fill up when it's below a quarter. The nature of it was brought home when it ran out at the second service at a former (short lived) TVR dealer.

On the griff I guess that you have one of those self sealing things on #004, after a few fills on #001 I found that not pushing it all the way in helps (oh er miss'es!)

The fuel gauge packed up on my S3 - so I carried paper and pencil in the glovebox and noted the mileage at each fill up. After 200 miles - head for garage. Much cheaper than fixing it...

Spot on, from a full tank after 250 miles the gauge will be reading 1/4 tank and I can get about another 50 miles from what left.

My S2 will do around 300 motorway miles on 1 tank of fuel.

......just tested this, 250 miles from Manchester to Dorset. Had enough left in the tank for a pootle around for another 30-ish miles. Gauge was still reading 1/4 tank when I decided to put some more petrol in. Put 40 bar in at 74p per litre...can't be arsed to do the sums...it's Christmas day and I'm half cut

Get more out of it on Optimax (hard to find round my part of the world) around 300 miles, but ordinary 97 Octane gives a bit less...
