Whats wrong with my clutch?!

All was going great yesterday, out for a blast in the sun,
but!
The clutch put a dark cloud over me. Second time this has happened now
It started to be difficult to depress and the would drag from up to the biting point, at the bite point it would then 'hunt' for the biting point, moving up and down by up to 1". It did this a few times about a month ago too, i put it down to the driving conditions, but yesterday i had been on clear roads driving quite steady, the car was warm but not hot.
Then finally at an island i pumped the clutch to see it if it would clear - and lost the ability to engage any gear completely! Wouldnt engage any despite very energetic efforts. Eventually after a a lot of embarassment and people pipping horns at me, the clutch seemed to 'pop' up and it went into first and i jerked forward about 2 feet and the rear wheels screemed. even more embarrasing!!
It was then fine for the remaining ten minutes for me to get home.
Whats going on?! Broken pressure plate fingers?
What should i do? Leave it and keep driving until it fails completely (if its going to?) or try and get it looked at now?

It sounds like the slave is not returning or is binding. Tou could see how it goes or get the bell housing off and see whats really going on.
I have experienced this one, outside the Ace Cafe. Couldnt pull away mid point through a 3 point turn. Some people thought I was on some sort of a protest!

Sound like one of two things, either your master cylinder has jammed / leaking (is there any fluid comming from the bell housing) or some of the fingers have broken on the clutch. If it's any of these you'll need to take out the gearbox / bell housing.
I've had both happen to me on different ocaasions.
I had problems getting hold of a set of master cylinders seals - if there still in short supply, I've got a set.
I also changed the clutch myself on the SP6, so if need any guidance, just ask.
