Numbnuts and I are changing his 156 V6 clutch.
What a pig of a job. Does anyone know if the engine and box have to come out of the car to do the job or can they be separated from within. The problem we have is trying to remove the box, as the subframe is fouling it.

If it is anything like a 164 you may find it best to use a veeeerrrryyy long extension bar on your socket and go in via the off side wheel arch. Or it may be completely disimilar and useless advice.
I may have to do the 164's clutch soon, it looks like a subframe out job, any helpful hints about replacing it gratefully received.
I've done a few V6 12 valve 164 clutches and they're a bit of a pain. Don't know how similar the 2 litre will be. I've ended up taking the gearbox out through the nearside wheelarch. It looks pretty accessible but there's more stuff has to come out than you'd think. Much of it could have stayed in if only there was just another half inch... But I guess we've all been in that situation before! One of the worst bits is a bellhousing bolt near the starter which, it turned out, didn't need to come ut at all! Hopefully, the 2 litre will be a bit better.
It was a while back but do-able by an amateur muppet without too much trouble. I am not sure what you would need to do to remove the 'box. I didn't bother. If you remove the upright from the strut on the near side and the off side drive shaft (plus a hundred and one other odds and sods including all wheel arch trims etc.) you can shift the gearbox to the near side sufficiently to open up about a three inch gap between it and the engine. which is just enough to get the new clutch up and in place. Not exactly text book but it works. In view of the tight space you will need to rig something up to centre the friction plate. A couple of sockets with a bolt though the middle worked for me.
