Shed as a 2nd car to the Elise?
Discussion
Jap or German I'd say....
Sporty or not ?? You got more than one lot of NCD ??
Thinking about it myself. 7k on A048's on the daily drive is a waste.... think I'd enjoy the car even more if I didn't have to tip toe around on the commute.
I can't do sensible though so thinking about an early 156 Alfa - despite my last alfa blowing up

2k would get you an early MX5, depends if you want something else non-practical!
Good call on the 156, it's a lot of car for the money. My last one did not blow up, however it was a bit iffy at the end, including refusing to start after I'd just got a deposit from someone who was buying it! I really, truly, desperatly wanted a big hole to open up and swallow me and the car for good...it was on his driveway!!!!!
Got it sorted (electical problem to do with the airbag), he still bought it and I never heard back from him...
My current car (see profile) has got to go soon (gutted) to be replaced by a company oil-burning Bora (150 bhp though!
), however sadly this means that I will be joining the Elise clan in August/September (no longer gutted1!!
)

I've toyed with the idea and would get a Micra if I did. Don't laugh - they're amazingly cheap to run, super reliable and reasonable to drive. My ex has one. We got some new tyres for her the other day - she went for some nice Bridgestones and they were only about £25 each!
I agree - had one as a courtesy car once and was very surprised and impressed. The way it dealt with speed humps was particuarly good.

£1750 should get you a post facelift 2000 model as well. That's what my ex has got and it has never even thought about going wrong. Bit of a stretch to the steering wheel, but other than that a perfect little A to B car. A to B cars for me shouldn't be big thirsty and heavy, that completely defeats the object!

Micra would be a good idea for nipping around town etc but not for hundreds of miles down the M11 etc
Shot2bits - How did you go about insurance for that exotic new motor? Did you have to start a second "no claims bonus" from scratch?
Are you gents aware, there are companies out there that will match your existing no claims bonus for your second car? This saved me a few hundred pounds.

Oh yeah, insurance - knew I'd forgotten something
That's on my list for tomorrow... She is an exotic lovely isn't she? I think I might even be able to put the Elise in the boot?shot2bits said:

Yes. I've done an hour or two on the motorway in one before and the driving position was really starting to bug me. It's kinda like an extreme version of that in the Elise - straight arms and legs bent back. The worst bit is that, unlike the Elise, you're sat very high in relation to the pedals so your ankle is bent right back to fit onto the accelerator pedal. Other than that the mpg on the motorway is fantastic

Omega is a steal. Raify on here bought a diesel one for similar money and it has EVERYTHING, including an engine made by BMW. Great motorway barge.
I remember when my sister had an Omega pool car. We drove from our house to the pub 2 miles away, and had only just made it to 60mph by the time we had to slow down for the pub!

I've installed a calendar in mine to measure the 0-60 time. Still, it's incredibly comfy. I'm getting an extra 30min 'lie-in' every morning!Well, drove the beast home earlier today. Initial thoughts were "what's wrong with the steering?" but after a few miles I just realised it's the way they are - i.e. the steering and the wheels are connected but you cannot tell
The brakes are quite good considering the huge bulk and the engine not too bad for motorways (2.0 16v)... The biggest plus is that it feels as though you're sat at home on the sofa! Started to rain with heavy traffic on the way home, I confess that I didn't miss the Elise one bit!!
It did cut out a few times when on idle - the revs hunted around the 1 - 2K mark before the engine cut out??? Appears fine now...

I christened mine the good ship H.M.S. Omega. She's a fine craft, aye. A bit loose around the gunnals. It doesn't so much steer and accelerate, more drift and waft.
