has anyone got a throttle cable for an S3c? I suspect they're all the same across the S models..

I've managed to snap mine and after about 6 hours of attempting a bodge i've given up and resigned myself to getting a replacement part, only trouble is, no one has them in stock! i'm in nottingham at the moment and I need the throttle cable to get home to london so if anyone has a spare, anywhere in the country I would like to buy it from you i'll travel to where you are tomorrow and then travel back to nottingham to fix the car (at least, that's the plan)

please email psychobert through his profile an he'll pass on messages to me (I can't pick up my profile email) or call/text me on 07789 755055

thanks very much!

Not a nice experience. I had a clutch bolt snap off on the M5 once. Luckily we were in crawling traffic and I was in the inside lane. Glad you are ok though

Don't have a spare cable, sorry. I've got various bits and pieces for the V8S but I'm sure that's different.

In an emergency I'd try a Ford agent.

Has it broken at the pedal end? That seems to be the usual place. If so, on the V8S at least you can shorten the outer by six inches and use the extra length on the inner to fit a screw-on cable nipple. Maybe you already tried this, though.

You can get inner and outer bits of Bowden cable from bike shops, often in the form of a complete assembly with a nipple at each end. If you cut one end off and pull the inner out you should be able to shove it down the existing outer. You'd need to use a screw-on nipple for the exposed end.

If all that looks like too much hassle you can just wedge the throttle open so the engine idles at 2500 rpm, you should be able to cruise at 40-50 mph in top gear.

Once you have sorted out the current emergency, fit a throttle pedal stop so it doesn't happen again.

Snapped at the engine side; the plastic ring on the end of the cable snapped in half. As a couple of people thought, the solution in the absence of a replacement cable, (which I used to carry in that car, lived under the passenger seat)was to feed a new cable through from the pedal and secure it with a couple of pinch bolts at either end.

I'd suggest using a couple in case one fails..

Not sure how strong it is, the cable I got from Halfords is about 3/4s the diameter of the cable we removed. Chap there uses it for a brake cable on a Ducatti so I figure its probably trustworthy..

well so far dr.bert old chum it seems to have held all the way down the M1 and throughout the utter beasting I dealt it on the A13 this morning

I suspect the cable will fray before the pince bolt loses grip
