Well chaps, I've been ferreting away in the garage for the past few months now and she is finally starting to look presentable again. So thanks to Dean of the RatPac for hosting the ongoing rebuild pics, I thought I'd let you all have a peek...... The latest news is the suspension is going off to powerflex to help them design a full cerbera kit, the engine is being rebuilt by a local engine builder (he's doing the short block and heads seperately, and I'll reattach the lot. Engine is being rebalanced and total seal gapless rings fitted, injectors cleaned and balanced, new lamba and throttle pot sensors, ceramic coated and wrapped headers etc but engine is essentially stock), and finally the carpets are coming back from the trimmer next weekend. Hopefully will have her back on the road for summer....

Looks really good! Did you put a race crank in your engine in the end?

Aslo did you use TVR pistons, or find something else that did the job?

That sounds excellent, any idea when Poweflex will have a Cerb' kit available? I'm looking at stripping, blasting and rebusing the suspension later on in the Summer.

It's really strange seeing my old car like that.
You don't do things by halfs, do you Windsor!

I know.... I didn't plan on doing it, just one thing led to another and whoops, this is where I ended up!!! I suppose if the valve guide on number 8 cylinder hadn't of slipped I'd still be pootling around in it now!!! But I am dreaming of the day (soon) when I can put the reliability issues to bed permanently!!!

No Simon, all the internal all standard, but to be fair they are all A1 anyway as Darren had the misfortune of a snapped crank in 2003, so it has a 4.5 crank in anyway and new rods/pistons etc. The engine builder is replacing the bearings and giving it a full inspection, but its all standard apart from the rings. I did a lot of research on converting to 4.5, but there were too many variables for what is a relatively small increase in power. She ran 359hp, 330lbft last year with a lot of oil coming into the number 8 cylinder - with all the detailing and attention the engine is getting on rebuild, it can only improve.......

I doubt the suspension bushes will take long. This will also include anti roll bar bushes and the trialing links on the front.

Is that the car that came from the Channel Islands?

It looked lovely, I could put a better colour combo together.

That projest is outstanding, I would love to do that to my car, but no space really.

Looking good longbow...

One of the first pics shows the front end of the body supported with a strop through the wheel arches. Is this how you lifted it off the chassis in the first place? I'm planning to do it the same way with a strop around each end and a hoist - did you use anything more than the wrapping visible in the pic to support the body around the arches...?

Don,
I put the picture of the car strapped to the roof in for comedy value!! Talk about improvisation - remember I did all of this one my own without any help!! Yes, the only way I could manage it was to support the very rear of the body on large axle stands, and then suspend the body from the roof using a tow strap under the front wheel arches and connected to the roof supports by block and tackle. This way you can place the chassis on scissor jacks and slowly lower it from the body. Then I literally dragged it out by hand. Same process for refitting, but I placed an old carpet on the garage floor - this way the chassis slid easily in without any scratching. As far as dropping the chassis out - the only word of warning is to cut away a small amount of GRP around the outer front seat belt mounting holes on the outriggers (for some reason TVR have moulded in around it after the chassis and body are mated), otherwise the chassis will foul and not drop away cleanly. I believe Steve Heath may have bent his outriggers this way by reading his build story. Other than that, its just nuts and bolts my friend..................
