Hi all

I am a relative newbie to 911 heaven having swapped my very much loved S2000 for a 98 c2 tiptronic cab

I was looking for some advice on upgrades, Id like to do what I can to boost its 0 -100 performance, I dont want to stray into the world of forced induction so am looking at exhausts, intakes etc.

Should I get the car re-mapped etc

Ive seen some offerings from Fabspeed and such but do they add any power or just improve sound? Is it worth replacing the cats with 100cel cats or just leave them as standard? Should I replace the stock manifolds or is there no point etc? Will I save much weight in changing the exhaust system to an aftermarket one?

who are the brand leaders in Porsche upgrades/

Any advice is very gratefully received

Thanks!

Ron

You can make minor gains with cats/remap/exhaust, but only maybe 10% extra bhp at most. It may knock half a second off your 0-100 time, but the results will never be spectacular unless you supercharge/turbocharge or spend silly money. Maybe find a turbo lump from a crashed 996tt and drop it in for real fun ;-)

Must admit, I never have seen the point in maximising the performance of a normal 996. If you want a faster car, GT3 or TT suffice. Otherwise, it is more cost effective to do driver training if you want to go quicker. I used to be into all sorts of little tweaks until I realised that the nut behind the wheel required upgrading first. 200 quid spent at CarLimits with Andrew Walsh is like 2k on performance parts!

I think 911's look great as they are, they go well enough too (yes all of them)

upgrade only what will add value, xennons etc.

says Gary with the huge Gemballa spoiler, BBB stanless exhaust and GT3 split rims

some good stuff about driver training

Spot on!

When you have done

1. Driver training
2. Driver training
3. Driver training

then try some driver training

(says the bloke who spends more time at work searching ebay than Mark Outen spends surfing www rentboys4mps.wotsit)

If performance was an issue, why choose a cab in tip form?
I have driven one, I wasn't impressed. I almost gave up on buying a 996 at that point. That is untill I drove a manual C2 coupe with sports pack. A huge difference! (I now own it)

Fabspeed will give it nothing more than a nicer sound (I have one).

If you are intent on modding, give Ray West of West tuning a call. He can release an additional 20-25bhp through a remap and larger throttle body.

Hi all

many thanks for the tips, agreed driver training is a very good option.

Thanks for the West tip thats really useful. Do they have a website? contact details?

Manual Performance lost to no traffic jam clutch pumping and the cab because its just marvellous to get some sun. Please dont get me wrong, Im not trying to make it into a turbo, just do have it optimally set up and raring to go.
