Doing some work on the front end and noticed that the front wishbones have a lot of surface rust, I want to take them off the car and clean them up, may be shot blast them. What are the best products to then use to stop this happening again?

I've no experience beyond what I've read here but people seem to rave about POR15

Yep! can't beat POR 15. Dont worry too much about surface rust. This stuff is designed for use on rusted surfaces. If you have the surface blasted you may need to use their primer as well.

I used it on my out riggers in January 04. Still solid as a rock. Not lifted at all & no sign of rust.

Yes, it works. Applied correctly it's there for good. Just scrape off the loose rust and paint over what's left. After curing it will take repeated hammer blows without budging. Mine is still exactly how it was when I applied it six years on.

Note it will not adhere to clean shiny metal or previously painted surfaces, where it will lift off wholesale. Rough up existing paintwork (and maybe use a tie coat primer) and treat clean metal with Metal Ready primer and you will get results.

Don't want to teach you to "suck eggs" but if you take the upper wish bones off you will have to get your geometry checked out, Lower wish bone are ok but traking will have to be checked afterwards.
Managed to do mine whilst on the car.

Paul.
