Hey all, my second computer-problem post of the day!

When I'm staying at my girlfriends house I use my Sony Vaio laptop on her wireless network to view the internet. Quite often the computer will stop giving me access to the internet, and will quote that "the connection has limited or no connectivity". It will quote a problem with "renewing my IP address".

I thought the problem was related to my location within the house, but this appears not to be the case. The problem occurs even when my connection speed is good (54 Mbps) and when the signal strength is "good" or "excellent". Sometimes the connection is fine and I won't have a problem, and sometimes the computer will keep allowing/disallowing me access to the internet.

My girlfriend has two laptops and both of these have no such connection problems, even though they are older than my Vaio.

Any help with the matter would be great, as it really bugs me when my internet connection suddenly dies right in the middle of something important (it's happened once already since making posts on PH this afternoon).

Cheers.

Try updating the drivers for the Vaio's wireless card?

update drivers on NIC, update firmware on wireless router...other than that check for interference in the home...only problem is it might not be in your house if you do have a severe interference issue

I'm pretty sure it's not interference from another house, as we live around 150 metres from the nearest house. Also, the other laptops in the house (and indeed, my last Samsung laptop) have never had a problem.

ah right - sounds like the built in one in the Sony then....get the latest driver ...failing that buy an 3rd party PCMCIA wireless card and disable the on-board one
