Can anyone recommend a decent photographer's vest/jacket? I had a look at the Tamrac version yesterday, but wasn't that impressed - it didn't feel that durable, and the pockets weren't that big either.

I'm looking to get something so I can "wear" some of my gear camera when I fly with it (trying to sneak 15+kg of gear as hand baggage isn't always going to work!), so I'd like something with pockets big enough to take a decent sized lens (e.g., Canon 24-70 or L/F lens on a lens board).

How about a high end fly-fishing vest? They might be made more durable.

I have a Rohan one. Not strictly a "photographer's vest" but lots and lots of space in it. Light too...

Looks good - I like the idea of the drink bladder too! How big are the front pockets - what sort of lens can you get in them?

Depends on how big you are. I can stuff a lens cap into mine but then I'm a fat bastard. Someone of slimmer build will probably fit an 18-55mm in no problem.

I have last year's model - no hydration system in it. I wear it over the top of a fleece. Very handy for stuffing bits and pieces in (lens caps, GPS units, body caps, etc). Can't say I've carried a lens in it other than during changing over...

Why not wander down to one of the shops and take a look?

I tried hiding my Nikon 70-200 in the front of my trousers once. Didn't get very far though.

Domke do one that I used to use a while ago when a working press photographer.

Digital Depot have a Domke clearance sale at the moment too. Domke make good, no-nonsense gear. I use their bags now instead.

I use the Domke vest most of the time, I got mine from B&H in New York as nowhere over here had them at the time but it is very comfortable to wear, very hard wearing and has plenty of pockets, you should get a 24-70 in no problem at all as I sometimes carry the 70-200 f2.8 in one of the side pockets.
