Grrrrr!!!!

Driving along today and the centre section of the roof decided it wanted to come off!! Basically one of the tongues has snapped off and when I went over a bump the roof dislodged it self. Fortunately my reactions were quick enough to grab it so stopping any serious damage. does any one have any ideas on how to replace or repair it.

It was basically the car telling me it wanted to be topless!!!

my idea is to make a new tab with fibre glass resin (P40 I think) by sqashing it into the groove with cling film or vaseline to stop it sticking in the hole. the tough part is finding a way to bond it to the roof.
Do you agree with the method for making a new tab.
I will get pics and let you all know how it goes, in the mean time: ROOF STAYS OFF!!! hehe

As far as bonding goes, try Sikaflex, its mega adhesive and erm..flexes more than fibreglass anyway.

Personally I think I would want something a little stronger as the tab is only thin. I would do as Tim suggests in the earlier posting and graft a piece of Ali in there. It's not the sort of thing to take chances with, could do some serious damage if it happened again.

Yeah I would go with the ally suggestion,it sounds like the only safe option to me and I would think that its not too difficult to do.

The tabs were sold as seperate spare parts by TVR dealers. It might be worth seeing if someone like TvrCarParts keeps them in stock.

So far; I can confirm that the roof is fibre glass and that a plastic coated steel strip makes up the tab. I drilled small holes around the strip and carefully cut the rest of the tab out. I have fashioned a tab out of what used to be the toilet roll holder in the down stairs loo. I could have bought a strip of Ally but I had the A-team theme tune running at the back of my head. This has now been cut to size with three holes drilled, 2 which are angled. I filled the hole in the roof with fibre glass resin and forced the new tab in. This is all hardening off over night and hopefully it will work. Will let you all know tomorrow.
